I was playing around with a new way to make a doll head for the larger princesses that I take the Bgirl when working her party. I think I really like this style. It gives the doll a stable neck, a chin, and a way to anchor the hair.

Step 1) Inflate a 350/360 about 6" and tie off. Inflate a matching 160 about 7" and tie off making sure there is about a 2" uninflated nozzle section before the knot. Inflate a 160 for the hair leaving about 3" uninflated nozzle section.

Step 2) Tie all 3 balloons together as close to the nozzles as possible. (Frog princess 010).

Step 3) Marriage twist the 350/360. (Frog princess 011) A marriage twist is the same as a tulip twist except instead of just stuffing the nozzle into the balloon, another balloon is attached to the nozzle first.

Step 3a) Break off the excess 350/360 and tie off - making sure to capture the marriage twisted knot.

Step 4) Gently tug on the "hair" balloon to make sure it isn't trapped inside the 350/360. (frog princess 012)

Step 5) Position the neck balloon (matching 160) off center.

Step 6) Working with the hair balloon, make a small pinch twist as close to the head balloon as you can.

Step 7) Make a bubble that is equal in distance as the back of the head.

Step 8) Make a second pinch twist then connect it to the tail of the 350/360.

Step 9) Now that the foundation of the hair is made, use the pinch twists as connection points to attach any hair style you like. I chose this hair style for this doll because I needed a way to add a larger tiara than I normally use. The final bubble was wrapped completely around the first hair bubbles then the tiara was wedged (and rubber cemented) into place.

Step 10) I made the neck bubble then broke off the rest of the 160 and tied off. The bottom of the neck was wedged (and rubber cemented) into a Ken Stillman style princess bodice.

I hope you find this doll head useful.

Happy twisting,
Bonnie, The Balloon Lady

Thank you all for the lovely compliments! :) I'm glad ya'll can use the idea.

How long did it take to make as in the whole princess design? She took about 4 hours. Only about 45 minutes of which was actual twisting time. lol The rest of the time was used up by "planning and/or thinking about" how I should make her.

Happy twisting,
Bonnie, The Balloon Lady

This is a variation on the larger doll head born out of necessity:

01) Insert a raisin into a 5" round. Inflate inflate the round about 4" and tie off. Inflate a matching 160 about 6" and tie off making sure to leave at least a 1.5" section of balloon before the knot. Inflate a 160 for the hair making sure to leave at least a 1" section of balloon before the knot.

02) Tie all 3 balloons together at the nozzle section.

03) Marriage twist the hair balloon and round balloon into the matching 160. Make a bubble that is about 2" long then tie off being sure to capture the knots while tying off.

04) Grab the raisin and centering it on the top of the head twist it. Then tie it in place with a scrap 160.

To be continued...

05) Working with the hair balloon: Make a pinch twist at the base of the neck, a bubble that reaches to the raisin at the top of the head, and a second pinch twist attached to the raisin.

06) Now that the foundation is laid for the hair, add any hair style you wish.

07) Wedge the bottom of the neck into a Ken Stillman style bodice and rubber cement it in place.
