I have created a balloon modelling chat room for professional and amateur balloon artists.
Tell me what you think? Good or bad idea.

Its not a forum but a chat room

Yes this is the place to be for stimulating conversation amongst my ballooning family. No need to chat elsewhere.

Well at least it was until recently Darren

We seem to be afflicted by a new form of human spam... The cynical side of me believes that this is some form of SEO strategy that we are all paying the price for.

Purgatory doesn't seem such a bad prospect after the last few days.

Maybe this is why people up and leave forums but for now I'll hold out for a swift return to normality... and soon!

Just because I post at lot doesn't make me a spammer. I respond to comments which is what forums are for.

And we are allowed to add link to our comments. And businesses use forums as part of SEO. I am not spamming. I am a regular poster

I have just posted a comment to this thread.  I must have clicked on new topic instead of reply. I wondered why it asked me for a title when I clicked on submit.  Anyways Daniel my comment on that thread is to you.

Daniel,

You may be thinking that everyone is having a go at you here. This forum is full of friendly, helpful and knowledgable twisters (beginners to expert) that just by joining the forum gives you immediate access.

I do have an issue with your posts and have tried to suggest you approach this forum differently.

A) try to aim for quality posts rather than quantity.
B) ensure your posts have a point or purpose. Many of your posts are simply statements and do not really encourage others to respond or to gain anything from the information you share.
C) written posts can be interpreted in different ways by different people which makes it even more important to word them clearly. For example your post about men working with children would have been better by sharing your own personal experiences and asking others if they had difficulties.
D) try to put all related posts under one subject. For example, only one post was required for the world records subject. It is fair to say that the forum is looking pretty cluttered over the last few days.
E) use the search facility before asking questions. Either you will find the answers you seek or at least find an appropriate thread for you to continue.
F) don't expect artists to giveaway their designs for free. If you ask help on how to make something expect a product recommendation. However, if you have a go at making your own design first then post a photo then everyone will freely offer help tips and ideas for improvements.

You may see my suggestions as negative but hopefully you will change your approach for the benefit of all.

Beat wishes

Thank you

Would you agree that my comment about stigma with men working with children is offensive to other men in the profession. That's what one member said. Its other people who have the issue with men working with children, not me

Daniel,

Personally I didn't find it offensive but others may. The problemw with that specific post was your original discussion point was not presented particularly well and I was puzzled by it. A better approach would have been to say...

"Hi everyone, a few weeks ago whilst I was entertaining at a party, one of the mums came up to me and said something that I found offensive. She implied that blah blah blah.....   Has anyone else received such comments and how did you deal with it?"

This would have resulted in a much more positive conversation and perhaps we all would have learned something by sharing our real experiences.

Unfortunately I too am going to decline your offer to join your chat site. Mainly because judging by the quality of your previous posts, its bound to be pants.

How am I a troll? Its others on here who are causing trouble. I make comments which are misunderstood. They don't read my posts properly and they are to blame and not me.

They are trying to make me out to have a problem with men working with children which I do not. I was simply saying other people do so what's the problem.

If replies to my posts hadn't been personal and had made sense there wouldn't be all these replies from me.
