Balloon modelling tutorial DVD's are not as popular as they once were due to video sharing sites such as Youtube and Expert Village. What are your thoughts? Perhaps you had been making  DVDs/videos but have now resorted to uploading them onto Youtube (etc.) and are now earning an income as a Youtube Partner (etc.).

Please let me know your thoughts. I look forward to your comments.

The VERY best instuctions are still on DVD's. Things you will not find on youtube. Purchase everything you can that has Don Caldwells name on it. Also the DVD's by David Brennion of niftyballoons.com have radically changed my life!!!!

I have to agree with Rick on this one.  Don't get me wrong...I love youtube and you can find some cool stuff there, but it makes sense that artists save their best for DVD's.  I collect as many as I can afford.  I also agree that anything with Don Caldwell or David Brenion's name is golden.

There is also a paid subscription balloon site called balloonclick.com that is brilliant.

Instructions for the masses via YouTube will only be for basic designs.

The Youtube sites do have some interesting ideas on their videos, but the popularity of well produced DVD's will never wane.

The new titles are very popular, Don Caldwels "Untitled" DVD set sold out almost within 24 hours of release.

For great everyday working material I would wholeheartedly recomend the DVD's of Thelma, and Twistina, and the ones that got me started when they were on video, the David Grist series.
Kind regards
Kevin

I absolutely love my balloon dvd's, there are some great stuff on youtube, I think a great starting point for anyone who wants to get into twisting is buster balloon's youtube chanel, but if you want to progress quickly I think dvd's are invaluable.

Actually one of my favourite things that I keep watching is one of the bonus downloads from the buster balloon untitled collection, where he goes into a bit of design theory, it really opened my eyes as to how to take a sculpture and adapt it and make it your own.

Love that stuff.

The DVDs you sell probably teach the more complicated balloon models, which many Youtube videos do not give tuition on, which is why you are selling them. But for dogs, swords, giraffes and teddy bears (etc.) most people will go elsewhere.

So it is a dying business but not for the more complicated balloon models, one's you wouldn't find on Youtube. I just hope Graham has created his own designs and they are copyright protected. Otherwise you might find someone teaching how to make them on Youtube (etc.).

When prospective customers complain that I am too expensive and do not want to book me I usually direct them to you tube and a balloon shop.

I tell them they may as well spend a couple of hours learning how to make dogs, flowers and swords themselves. There is absolutely no point paying for somebody to pitch up and make that stuff.

Graham has produced quality DVD's from beginner to advanced. in fact they were the first I bought and they did me no harm, I also attended care and share days to swap ideas and learn hands on. As for copyrighting - hows does that work? Pay a fortune (why) to prove that you own the rights to a model (impossible) and eveyone in the world then pays you if they make it (no chance)? 'cos if a balloon monkey is copyrighted looks like Im of to prison for copyright breach !!! People recognise other people work with acknowledgements. Investing in the art is whats makes you a better balloon artist.

I can personally confirm what others have said about YouTube videos as I make some of them. I like to think I upload the best possible models on the site (you won't see a one balloon bear) but I do hold back what I consider my truly golden material. I don't even post photos of them on this site. I do this because it is always a good idea to have something extra in store.

I like to have my options open. If I am ever inclined to make a DVD I have something to offer.

I personally think DVDs are a dying format and I think most others can see that. I see the real way to profit from balloon teaching will shift to an instant download format. We can see it a bit now but growth seems ever present.

I love all the DVD's I have purchased and wish I could afford to buy more!  I am not a professional twister, and likely somewhat slower at picking up the techniques, but with my DVD's I can start em, or stop em, or replay em as much as I want.  Keep making them everyone!!!!!!

I agree regarding DVD's being a dying format.

I used to have an 8-Track in the car, then a Radio Cassette, then a CD Radio, now it's a USB/Radio, CD's have gone. I simply have a couple of USB's with over 400 tunes on each. I don't remember the last time I played a CD, DVD's are going the same way.

Computers are now commonly produced without a disc drive, Stereos and TV's now have a USB input.

Perhaps Graham would consider the option of direct download of his videos, for a price of course. :)

lov the DVD's that I have purchased. I watch them over and over again. I use them for ideas. Youtube has some good artist on there annd they have some good ideas. But in my area I think wearables are a big hit. And when I make a teddy bear bracelet or a Flower hand band The women get goggly eyes. You cant get them ideas from youtube yet.
