Title: Challenge 2020
Post by: Graham Lee on January 03, 2020, 11:03:09 AM
We have decided to start a new thread for our Balloon Chat challenge for 2020.
To see the challenges for 2019, http://balloonchat.co.uk/balloon-chit-chat/challenge/

Its my turn to set the challenge for Danielle and I have gone with this dog design.
I did see it on ‎Juanma España Facebook page, I did contact them and it is not
his design and he mentioned it was sent to him 2 or 3 years back.

So if anyone does know who the designer is we would very much like to credit.

This is my variation on the dog, we are still looking to see who to credit for the design.

After many Xmas parties and no twisting I felt a little rusty
But Graham set this challenge and it is a nice interesting design. I wanted to make different slightly. I would change his top of his head next time...I feel I made it too wide.
I think it's meant to be a schnauzer.
Hope you all had a nice Xmas.

Looks like the mystery has been solved, this is the Facebook page for Kun Lung Ho.
‎Juanma España posted on my timeline that he remembered where he saw the design

https://www.facebook.com/balloonho/

I saw this picture on his timeline, if you get time have a look at his Facebook
page as there are some truly stunning designs on there.

Here is a design that is very eye catching. Graham found it but I decided to make our challenge as different to what we normally make.
A Celtic style design.
We are having trouble finding artist but we think it is Masayoshi Matsumoto. I always love his artwork.

Here is my attempt. But Graham did play with the design first and give me hints of what is a good starting point.
I wish I had made more Square by twisting sculpture a little more.

I found the design on the Insta BalloonTwisting page, the name posted/credited was Isopresso_balloon2
I did find the design on this page and with another link to Masayoshi Matsumoto Insta page.

This is why we believe it to be his but not 100% certain,
I will try and find his page on facebook/website as well and post the details for that as well.

To make it clear, Danielle and I are finding designs to inspire us and we are trying to make them
as a challenge. Some we attempt to recreate and others are a slight variation on a theme.

This was my attempt at the design, It did not look and sit as nice as the original.
I have two hearts as the first one I made was too large to sit in the centre so we
had to make slightly smaller and then I liked the heart sitting in front of the base.

As the design to me looked untidy I tied the inner and outer section of the sides together.
For my eye this sits correctly and makes a pleasing look, It did take me a little while
to work out the mechanics of the design and the correct length of the balloons to
make the design sit correctly, with a little help from Danielle....Thanks.
It was a good challenge, I definitely enjoyed this one....
then again I have enjoyed them all.

It was my turn for the challenge, so I sent the picture to Danielle and she did agree.
This is possibly the best Sonic I have seen, its by Patrick van de Ven.
I was into making sonic last week and then this week Patrick posted this one.

We both liked it so much we made it the challenge, Patrick does sell quite a few tutorials
if you wanted to take a look at his Facebook page, I don't think there is a tutorial for Sonic....
at the moment. https://www.facebook.com/ballonkunstenaar

Here is my version of Sonic from Patrick's design.
I have been making a few Sonic's over the past few weeks.

There is a separate thread on Balloon Chat if anyone would like to take a look.

This Sonic is a collaboration of Patrick's Sonic and the one I was making on the other thread.

Finally I have time....ample of time to make our Sonic challenge.....due to getting fined if we do go out!
I really loved Graham's and Patrick's designs so I kind of morphed them both together 😂
Sorry it's taken me so long to create it.

It was my challenge and I wanted to delve into a bit of weaving.
I spotted a hot air balloon by Christopher Ingram and wanted to try.
Title: Re: Challenge 2020
Post by: dansfunkyfaces on April 13, 2020, 09:06:04 AM
I wasn't quite sure how many to start with so this challenge I did talk it through
with Graham and he guided me on how he did the top even though with 12
balloons of 6 colours it was rather confusing at first   ;D

But then I was fine to do on my own. I'm pretty happy how my first hot air weave went.
But definitely want to do more as I really need to improve.

I have tried to contact Christopher Ingram for details about a website or Facebook page we could promote for him.
As yet he has not got back to me, we saw his picture on the "Smile for a Rainbow" Facebook page.

So this was my attempt at the hot air balloon design,
its the getting the shape of the balloon that is the main challenge.

It was my turn to choose the challenge, I went with this Bear design.
Its by Masayoshi Matsumoto, the design is on his insta account, isopresso_balloon2
He also has another account on insta, isopresso_balloon

This I believe is also his Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/masayoshi.matsumoto.5

The Bear challenge we did a little different and only had a couple of hours to make.
Usually I do this very leisurely over a few days with time to think and plan a little.
I did make mine in the two hours but it took me over an hour to get a picture
that I liked. For some reason it was difficult to get the right shot.

My favourite two pictures that I managed. I did change the design slightly.

Here is my attempt at the bear. I liked this one as I learnt a new weave.
Graham said its called the wheat weave, it was a challenge making in 2 hours.
But maybe not again, it was stressful. Back to making them leisurely again for me.

Its my turn to pick a design to make, now what shall it be.......................

As it was my turn to set the challenge I looked for inspiration and could not find something I wanted to make.
But a job came in asking to make a Koi fish so I suggested this as was something different to what we usually make.
Title: Re: Challenge 2020
Post by: Graham Lee on June 22, 2020, 08:44:59 AM
I went with weaving and was only doing a trial run to get shape etc
That is why it's all in Orange but then decided to go with it.

My Koi is a more rounded shape than oblong,
changing bubble sizing on the weave could adjust that next time................
if there is a next time  ;D

I did make a few extra fish and have posted them onto another thread so this thread
keeps more to  just the designs that have been set as the challenge.
https://balloonchat.co.uk/balloon-chit-chat/fish-11694/msg87540/#new

The fish in the above post was version one of the design and the fish here is version four.
Version two and three are on the link above to see how I got to version four.

I was aiming for an off White colour for the fish and put Chocolate Brown inside the White 321 balloon.
This was a mistake, possibly just Ivory would have darkened it up enough as
my Fish went to a Grey colour where it was double stuffed.

I did also want to try a smaller mouth but when I was changing it over the main fish popped.

This time it was my challenge to choose the new balloon but after searching the internet nothing inspired me.
I got an unusual job that came through, to create a Koi balloon.
So we decided this would be a good challenge.

It was my turn to decide the challenge design we were going to try and re create.
I went with another design by TwisTee the Racoon.

You can find her on Insta here, https://www.instagram.com/balloontwistee/?hl=en

or on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/Kaiumporn.P
Title: Re: Challenge 2020

This was my first attempt at the design, the face was a little too wide and the ears
I did a loop from a centre point which did not give the desired effect.
Title: Re: Challenge 2020
Post by: Graham Lee on July 14, 2020, 03:09:06 PM
I then went onto version two for the head, I used the same body for both designs.
I changed the look for the ears and made the head not as wide.
The eyes we did change the look of as well.

I love what Twistee makes....always so cute.
And there is so much work in this design....with apple twists and eyes. That it did end up taking a while to make the end result.

I'm happy with the outcome but the ears should be more upright and still not quite as cute as hers 😍

Here is our next challenge, the Spaceman. Graham sent me a few pictures over while we were trying to decide the next challenge and I liked the Spaceman.
Not sure who to credit, I'm sure Graham will let people know.

This was my Space Man that I came up with a few days back now.
I was waiting to post till I found out who the original artiste was.

There is a thread here with some more pictures that I posted while trying to come up with the design,

I struggled getter a good picture with the Chrome Silver visor so then made him with the Black Visor and then after tried the Chrome Gold.

The artwork I drew on myself, was rather pleased with how it came out.

Here is my spaceman. I wanted to try to get a head with artwork on into a 646 which worked first time.
The body is pretty basic but does the job.

I thought we would try something different for the challenge this time.
Instead of making the same design I chose the theme Halloween and we had to make any design to fit the theme.

Well it did not work out as planned as we both picked the same character from Halloween without knowing.
It was interesting to see the outcome as neither of us saw the others design till we both finished.

I took inspiration from a Buster Balloon design I found.

It was funny that we both thought of making the same design.
Although I think it was my fault as Danielle did mention Chucky to me a few days previous and perhaps that stuck in my mind.
I also searched here on the forum and liked Rob Driscoll's Sugar Skull and saw a few Chucky's
But went with Chucky, my one was not based on anyone's design but from the first picture.

This was my first version and the final look. I will post on another thread as I changed
the look a few times and added to the design but will post on a separate thread.

I will add all the pictures that I took from both the designs on a separate thread here,
https://www.balloonchat.co.uk/balloon-chit-chat/chucky-11749/

I also did a version two of Chucky. Will post all of them onto the link above.
I think I like the head structure better from version one and the arms better from version two but every time I look at them both I change my mind  ;D

We have been a little slow with the next challenge. But finally found something both Danielle and I liked and had time to try it out.
This is a design by Derek Wong from Twisted Creations in Canada. This is his Facebook page is,

This is a beautifully designed balloon.
I love Derek Wong's art and this is lovely.
Looks simple until you start twisting 😅
I would make bow larger next time...but I did really
Enjoy doing this and it come together fast 💞

Her is my Geisha Girl, I did make her a few days back now but been so busy on a big build that I have not had time
to find a good picture and re-size. All done and was nice to get back to a challenge after a couple of months.
Really enjoyed it, the face was originally double stuffed so she had a nose but right at the last minute when
adding the crown the ear attachment popped the outer balloon so we had to slightly alter the look and
went for single balloon for the head. I added the extra chrome for the base on the first picture.

Danielle asked if we fancied doing a mini challenge the other day so I said sure why
not and she randomly picked that we both make a wreath.

There was no one else's picture to go by, just make a wreath.
This was my design I made last night.

I really fancied making a wreath to do a Christmassy challenge.
I designed this at 4am ha 👀 not intentionally!! But I'm glad it worked.
I used the football (diamond and square) weave David and Graham showed me.
Then added details.
I really love it up on my door 🥰
