hello all

i had my first paid job, over the weekend, and i loved it.  It was a 5 year old's birthday and it was a mixed group all 15 of them,  i knocked out princess wands and hats, flowers and pones for the girls and for the boys it was guns, swords, staffs the odd flower.  but it was great the hour passed so fast, however at then end of my time i had 4 girls all wanting princess hats so i stayed till it was done.

how do people deal with lots of kids all wanting something at the end of the gig???? do you stay and finish it or do you walk out bang on time.

also i am looking at getting myself a new pump but not sure what to get. i have looked at the forums and have read about the air horn pump and the filbet pump but which is better to use ???????? and the moment i am using a good old hand pump

And the bug wont let go :D Finishing on time is always difficultm hopefully over time you will get the knack of judging things better.
I like the McPump and happen to sell them as well   If you come to one of the care & share days you can try to see how you get on with it.

Well don John!

I have an air-horn pump and 2 Filberts.

Both are great but I only use the air-horn pump for jobs that are walkabout. The Filbert pump is a real workhorse and the air-horn just cannot match it for speed. The Macpumps that Graham sells are great too, just not as nice looking.

For me finishing on time depends on what I promised the client and whether all of the kids have had a balloon (or at least the chance to have a balloon).

If I have promised that I can do 15 kids in 1 hour and I have been twisting the whole time and there are 1 or 2 left at the end then I stay. However, if a client has booked an hour saying there is 15 kids and there turns out to be 30 so long as I have made models for at least 15 of them in my hour I will endeavour to leave on time or the client can pay me to stay (if I don't have anything else booked afterwards).

I have also had events where kids have not wanted to come to me straight away because there is something else going on at the time (like a bouncy castle etc) but I know if this happens I will be rushed later on and if time is likely to be tight it is not good. What I usually do is start making models whilst trying to encourage some of the kids to go first. This way they can see what I can do, I still look busy and if I do get a rush at the end I have made up a few already which I can then hand out once I decide enough is enough.

Hope some of that helps.
