I have a library show coming up on Wednesday.  Today, I got a headache, feel like an elephant is sitting on my chest, and my throat is starting to hurt.  What the heck do I do?  Go in coughing  and hacking?  Call and warn them it might not be such a great idea for me to come?  I really hope this just blows over, but I've felt it coming on for a few days.  Now I don't know what to do.  Suggestions?

I would say, call them and tell them the situation and let them decide.  I had that happen when I had to do some balloons at the local nursing home and they appreciated having the choice themselves.

Generally when it's show time the body takes over and you manage through, in all the years I have only ever not made it to one party due to illness.
I had an inner ear infection and was fine laying down but when I stood up the room spun around, very odd.
Luckily my Daughter has a bouncy castle business so she took two along to the party and her and my son twisted some basic balloons for the party guests.

On a side note my kid's said the party was chaos as they had invited over 60 guests, the lady was not too happy but I like to think we did supply some
entertainment and there was something to amuse the children for a while. What can you do, when you are ill you are ill.

I agree with Graham.

Dr. Adrenalin kicks in and will get you through the show. You will feel terrible before and after, but ok during the show. Prepare as much as possible at home so you can just turn up and perform!

Good luck!

and get well soon,

Thanks everyone!  Sound advice all the way around.  Hopefully I'll keep feeling better and be at least ok for the show.  Fingers crossed.

This happened to me last Friday. I felt awful and was physically sick around lunchtime and had two christmas shows in the evening. Cancelling was an option but I just felt bad letting down so many people as well as worrying about my reputation. So I just picked myself and got on with it. I made it through two great shows and felt so much better afterwards. You just have to go for it!

One thing I left out earlier....I started running a fever of 101.4f (38.6c) last night.  It seems to have lessened today, but I'm achy...really achy.

I'm trying to get in touch with the library.  I'm going to get everything ready for the show, and hope I feel better, but I figured it was a good idea to let the library know that things are amiss.  If we can't reschedule, I'll send a bunch of pre-twisted creations up to them free of charge.  Hopefully they will still use me in the future.

Ta-da!!!!  I woke up feeling just fine this morning!  Oh happy days!!  I've been pulling everything together for the show and it's going to be so fun!

@Pam, no, there's no one close to me that does balloons like I do.  I really wish there was, but I haven't found anyone yet.  The closest I've found is about 2 hours away.

One of the librarians had a nice camera and was taking pics during the show.  I thought you might like to see a few....
