Hi,  Just a question of how and where you all store your balloons - I know Pam stores hers in the top of her unit with fans and a themometre - I store mine in the front bedroom but now running out of room .

I know we are supposed to store them in a coolish spot but as I am running out of room I was wondering about storing them in the shed -  only thing that worries me is the heat in the summer and the cold in the winter.

Any tips / idea's would be appreciated.

Mine just sit about the house, mainly in my converted loft which is my study/work area.

Hi Graham,  will you be storing balloons in your new shed -  all I am trying to work out is am I being too fussy and worrying about nothing.

I have a large shed,  20ft long by 10ft and I would love to out my balloons in there but worry that the change of temp would harm the balloons and shorten their life span.

An interesting discussion. I have just had a new shed built in the garden too. aka the balloon studio!   Its fully insulated so hopefully, they should be okay throughout the winter and I have been told, just a heater on timer would be enough to keep the temp from freezing in the extreme winter. I am hopefully this is the solution to my storage issues as it can and has taken over the house at times.

I did get some old balloons from someone once that where stored in the garage and they were hard and inflexible.  A quick wizz in the tumble dryer at low heat and they came back to life again.

Ask me this question after the winter and I may have more advice.

Cheers, Ali.

my unit is the same - as a farm building its has extreme temperatures ( as anyone who has been to trainign recently andwe have had to decamp down stairs!!!)

Thats why the Balloon room - we have in it a Greenhouse thermometre so it shows the the highs and lows.. In teh summer we can cool it by opening the door and letting air movement in from the rest of the unit but in the winter we have an oil filled radiator to kep the temperature up.

We did have the balloons in (you will know if you have been) the 'drum room' but found the outside walls aftected the temperature too much and so the balloons too, but the ones that are in there in the jars have been there a while and are used when required and OK.

I know its impossible (my stocks prove that) but the best way of keeping your balloons fresh is to be them more often... even with all we do which is great for the decor and other balloons I stillfind if my 260's are more than 6 months old they pop more than I am happy with.. I find it strange this doesn't happen to 160's or 350's etc or even 5" or hearts they are all fine with what we do..

I have plenty at present so wont be saving the 8% this week
(been busy lately must go and check now to make sure..)

Thanks to all,  mmm,  interesting points here -  I think that nowdays people are doing more twisting and decor together even if we are not twisters so the Balloon Decor side end up with more bags of different balloons than the twisting side of the family  -  my main thing is the decor side but I also have a large plastic box with all my 260's,  350's and 640's in Plus boxes for my 5", 11" plain,  11" Printed,   Foils,  16"s , hearts, geos and blossoms.....

Someone wants 10 tables of 3 in a particular design - maybe the Musical Note design and you may not get another request for Music notes for another 6 months or even a year so whilst my regular wedding balloons I have a good turn around I do find that 1/2 my stock I will have for a while and as my loft is too hot then too cold I was wondering what you all did. No windows in the loft.

Yes Pam,  I have been in your store room and have seen first hand how you look after your balloons,  just wondered what everyone else did.

Maybe the quick turnaround balloons I could store outide in the shed in a sealed box with my 260's and foils and just keep the printed ( not as popular stock ) upstairs in the cupboard

So thanks to all,   have a good day -  Debbie xx
