Hi Andy.

There are a lot of different causes and effects for sorefingeritus.

If you can give us more info about your symptoms such as..

Is it general achiness?
Or sore in one part of the hand?

Is your skin sore or your muscles or your bones or your joints or some combination.

Do you use a handpump, upright pump , electric pump or mouth inflation.

Definitely go see a doctor first.  Then we can look at modifying the way you twist to make it easier...

I find the white powder stuff (possibly a talc like substance) inside the balloon dries my fingers out. If I twist a lot in a day I do end up having to put moisturising cream on them a couple of times. As I only twist as a hobby this does sort it out. Not sure how often I would need to use cream if I did this for a living.
Kindest Regards

I really would not apply anything while doing your balloons, this will only make things worse. Wait until the end of your work day then apply your cream. Leaving your hands dry while making balloons is the best way to deal with it, in the long run your hands will become tougher and will be able to handle the dryness. (in my experience).

For aching fingers, there is a hand exercise you can do at the end of each day to reduce this and it works very well.

There is a topic on this exercise that i posted a while back, just do a search and you should find it.

Hope this helps :)

Are you letting the balloon rub across the top of your fingers when you tie it?   Once I learned to keep the balloon from touching my cuticles, I haven't had the problem in years.   Getting regular manicures helps.

Also using a hot wax treatment can do wonders for hand pains, including the fingers.

My hands generally only hurt if I twist in the cold, hence, I have stopped talking jobs that are outside when the temps will be below 60 degrees Fahrenheit, I do not know what that is in Celsius.

Also, there are a few special things for the skin, like new skin and I have also heard of something for cows that works.

During the busy season, I also wear braces to bed so help prevent carpel tunnel.

Good luck and I look forward to hearing others views.
