Title: Panda Design
Post by: Graham Lee on February 08, 2015, 10:51:09 PM
For the past few months, well the geo play thread started early Oct I have been having a play with a panda design. One or two were just OK, nothing I was truly happy with.
The criteria was the head had to be made with a geo and would appear on my up coming geo DVD.
Had another play tonight and I think we had the lightbulb moment and have one that I'm pretty pleased with.

This panda I taught at the Leeds event back in March 2014, it uses 350's for the head and body.

These two panda's were made the week before Leeds when I was coming up with the panda design above.

That's a good panda Graham, I wonder if i could replace the Geo with a heart and get the same effect!! I have no Geo's!! :)

There are no geo's in this panda design Kenny, the body and head are all 350's

I saw a nice easy panda on facebook by Jeanine von Essen and decided to have a play, Jeanine's was made with a 350 I believe and I started off with a 5" round.

This was a pretty poor effort compared to Jeanine's, this is her facebook page to view the original, <!-- m -->https://www.facebook.com/HeyBalloonLady (https://www.facebook.com/HeyBalloonLady)<!-- m -->

I made these all yesterday, I think 4 variations in all. These two are the same, I was trying for the sit down look.

I remember David placing the ears on after with that design, there was a slack 260 which fitted under the muzzle.
So I changed the way I had the ears on the panda and this made the ears higher on the design.

I also made some new eyes, the ones with the white looked racoon like to me.

This latest Panda definitely looks better than the previous , and the eyes are so much alive. Like !

I was making a couple of Panda's at the millennium jam, when I get to resize them on that thread then I will add here as well.
Today I made another version, it needs a little tweaking here and there which I will have a play with tomorrow.

I took a couple of pictures of Beatings design but did not sit down to watch the construction,
yes Patricia liked the panda I made and wanted to wear it, it was OK.

I will add a few panda designs I have made recently, I think will make it easier if anyone is searching for Panda's in the future.
The first picture was from model of the month so a step by step guide to these is available.

This is the looking for love Panda, he was made at the London jam and his nose is too long.
It was a new idea I was playing with, it made a nice dog/fox face.
Title: Re: Panda Design

We then went onto Kung Fu Panda and then a different idea for the Panda face.

Same panda, different angle.
Title: Re: Panda Design
Post by: Graham Lee on March 17, 2016, 03:59:58 PM
Playing with the design Simon Jong showed at his Birmingham workshop, I sized down to 260/160
The arms and feet are all made from the same balloon so makes it a little quicker as well, still playing with the idea.
Title: Re: Panda Design

Then changing the eyes, I tried white for the eye area and a painted eye in black to get the correct slope.
Title: Re: Panda Design
Post by: Graham Lee on December 02, 2016, 03:40:26 PM
I had another play with a panda design.
AND have to say I made one that I rather like for the real world.

These are different and proportions not quite right.
Title: Re: Panda Design
Post by: Graham Lee on December 02, 2016, 03:41:53 PM
These are the ones I like, two balloons and a scrap for the eyes.
We might have to add some white for the eyes and a few black spots around the nose.

Just tweaking the design, I filmed the panda today for BalloonTube.
It will be going live in February sometime.

I up-scaled the 260 panda to a 350 last night.
Title: Re: Panda Design
Post by: Graham Lee on December 16, 2016, 04:52:42 PM
I made this one a few days back,
I added something to try and make the black eye stand out a little more.

Was hoping to get a picture with it a little more sunny but that looks like a non starter.

I also added the white to separate the eyes.

I like the one before the last one the best. It's got a nice round head.  I also like the pandas with the white eyes and black drawn on.  Very cool to see your progression. :-)

After seeing the design Dan Catt showed at the Bishops Stortford Care & Share day
I came home and had a little play so these are influenced from Dan's design.

Just variations on a theme really.
Title: Re: Panda Design

I then made a variation on the 2 balloon panda.
This uses a 260 white and a 160 black.

Playing with more panda's.

This is the Panda Mark showed at the care & share day last week.
Which I think is a variation on a Mr Bomas design but not 100% sure.

Title: Re: Panda Design

I have just looked through this thread and noticed there are quite a
few panda designs missing. This I'm assuming happened when we
had the forum updated a few months back now.

I have not noticed any missing pictures on other threads so
fingers crossed it was just this thread that had the hic-up.
Title: Re: Panda Design

The panda I posted onto BalloonTube over a year ago up-scaled with 350's.

This is the link if anyone would like to try the Panda design,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stW2_DncbjQ

Plus the two Panda's that were inspired from the Mark Byrne day.
The head design on the right we believe is from Mr Bomas
which Mark did credit at the day. Mark changed the design to add
onto a hat and then I altered the design for a simpler body.

The one on the left has the mouth/nose structure added,
The evolving panda, this is how our balloon art form evolves.

Agreed Graham, perhaps a tiny bubble in the end of a 160 tied in as a tongue?

Title: Re: Panda Design

I have noticed loads of Panda pictures are missing from this thread, this is because if a picture
is named Panda1 and I add another named panda1 the first one dis-appears.

It will be a challenge going through all my panda pictures and trying to add back the correct ones.
Perhaps I will start a new thread and just add all the Panda pictures there for people to see.
Will have a think.

Anyway yesterday I started to make some more Panda designs.

Picture one, The mouth and nose were too low on this design.
Picture two, I added extra bubbles behind the mouth and nose to lift it slightly.
Picture three, moved mouth and nose up a 1 finger bubble on face.

None look proportioned right to me as yet.
Title: Re: Panda Design

I made a cat with just the mouth drawn on so looked to see what it would look like as a Panda.
Still not right. Then all lined up for a mug shot  ;D

I was having another play with a Panda design a few days back. I was trying to make
something a little different to the others we have made over the years.
Title: Re: Panda Design
Post by: Graham Lee on January 03, 2022, 04:21:01 PM
Then went for a different style head design. The first one was too narrow, version two looked better.
But was not Panda like to me.
Title: Re: Panda Design
Post by: Graham Lee on January 03, 2022, 04:28:32 PM
I then changed the arms and added some extra Black for the Panda.
Title: Re: Panda Design

Another Panda design we made a few weeks back now.
Title: Re: Panda Design
Post by: Graham Lee on May 13, 2023, 02:07:26 PM
So I posted the Panda I made way back in February 2017 as tutorial number 24 onto Facebook yesterday and it got me twisting and upsizing the design.

This is the original design made from 260's for the head and body and a 160 for the eyes and nose.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stW2_DncbjQ

I used Ivory instead of White for the look.
Title: Re: Panda Design
Post by: Graham Lee on May 13, 2023, 02:21:43 PM
Then upsized it with 350's and changed things a little. Ears on the first one were
too big and I did not like the double bubble front on the second one.

Title: Re: Panda Design
Post by: Graham Lee on May 13, 2023, 02:24:27 PM
So went for a 646 for the front and back sections of the Panda. But then did not like the
look of the separate twists on the 160 around the mouth and in front of the eyes.

And the eyes possibly needed to be separated a little from each other as with Panda on the left.
Title: Re: Panda Design
Post by: Graham Lee on May 13, 2023, 02:50:30 PM
So we separated the eyes a little but the twists and 160 in front of the eyes was way wrong for me.

So ended up with this look on picture 8 of the larger design which I did like.

So the original design to the newer larger upsized Panda.
