Don't know if this subject has been covered before, but here it goes anyway...

What is your favourite software for creating your;

Website

Flyers & Promotions

I use Dreamweaver and Fireworks for webpages and Photoshop to do my balloon photos and flyers (a bit pricey, but had then from one of my past jobs).

I know some of you guys have got some good sites that you have done yourselves, so just interested in what other tools are out there.

Hi Popsie,

for my website I use an online instant website designer Moonfruit. It means I don't have to learn HTML or any other computer language. I can update it from anywhere in the world any time. It could be limiting for some people but I'm happy.

Fro my flyers and promotion stuff and pens etc I use Vistaprint.co.uk - they constantly send you emails but you can get 25 professional leaflets for just the cost of postage and on a regular basis - things like postcards come in packs of 100 and can be good big business cards - It just takes time to design them yourself and up load your pictures but once you have used and paid for them once they are free to always

I have Frontpage and Dreamweaver and must admit to using Frontpage more as it doesn't require me to think so much  :roll:   I used Frontpage for my Balloon site but at present my face painting one is a couple of hours site knocked up using the templates on my hosts site (1&1) as I lost my previous site and have to agree if someone is not so good with computers they can get a really nice professional looking site with web hosting packages.  I helped a friend of my hubby's set up a site using the 1&1 templates and he is a self confessed technophobe.

As for design programmes I use either Photoshop elements (got it free with my hosting package and can't afford the full version) or CorelDraw X3 (I got this for doing the FACE magazine with and know my way round it quite well now).  Corel has it's limitations (or at least I cannot work out how to do certain things) so for certain tasks I use Photoshop.  Would love the full version but cannot justify that amount of money on software when I already have a package which is suitable for the job.

I too use Vistaprint but I always design everything on my PC first and then have one upload fee.  You can download templates off their site which have the page size, bleed and safe areas marked on so you don't lose half your design.  They are also very good if they make a mistake as they cut some of my postcards wonky and it noticed so they re-printed and sent out new ones without argument.

I used Homesite for my site. It's just an HTML editor so it just makes writing it longhand easier. I just picked up Dreamweaver last week and have taken it for a test spin. There are some really cool tools in that.

For the Gallery on my website I downloaded a free gallery script. I love it. I've used it on a bunch of different sites and it makes uploading, resizing, and creating thumbnails a snap.

For other promo material I love Photoshop and Illustrator. Both Adobe products. If you can only get one, get Photoshop. It's a little overwhelming, but there are some great websites that teach you a lot of really great tricks. After spending some time going through different tutorials you'll understand most of the tools and you'll have some great techniques in your bag as well.
