Title: The Balloon Artistes Guild Challenge
Post by: Graham Lee on March 21, 2020, 05:05:44 PM
Rob has started a challenge over on Facebook,
you can enter each day or pick and choose just when you get time.
The theme for today was Easter, this is the link if you would like to join in,

This was my effort for today, I was trying to use the thinner face but
did not like my artwork that I drew so went with version two.

I did try and get the rounds to look more egg shaped by putting a raisen
inside the 5" round and tying off, it did give a slightly better look but not
sure it was worth the effort. Still you have to try things sometimes.

This was my day two challenge, something for Mothers Day.
I was not sure which pose I preferred, I posted the last one with hands at side on
the challenge as I thought it looked like the hands were protecting the baby more.

Day three of the challenge and the theme was under water.

I made the Oyster and Pearl which eventually I was pleased with.
I turned the pinch twists around in the second picture to give a more shell type look.

I made five tulip twists and joined them together to try and hide the
connection point we would have had with just using a 160 balloon
with either tying it together or having pinch twists.

I thought it looked more pleasing to the eye, well it did to my eye  ;D

I then added some extra detail to the base, I was pleased and then Danielle
suggested using a light inside for the Pearl and that just made the piece
pop and glow, the reflection from the light really helped the design.

This was day four of the challenge which was jungle themed.
I had been making some one balloon snakes this week so just upscaled it a little.
This was built on a live video link with two of my ladies of latex, Sally and Danielle.

Although some call them my carers  ;D ;D ;D

I posted the first one as I think a rattle snake is found more in the desert and not a jungle.

Day 5 of the challenge and the theme was Space.

Rob made a joke in the main thread when he posted,
"it is Space, what do you think you can come up with? maybe 3 ears?
a left ear, a right ear and a final front ear?

So carrying on with that pun..........this was my effort for the day.
P.S. Thanks to my art department for the editing.

Mr Men was the theme for day seven. I made Mr Noisy for the thread and then
made a Mr Snow the day after. It was a challenge trying to get his mouth
right and the top of his scarf. Neither still look right to me but I got a
little fed up so went onto twisting the next thing.

Maybe I will come back to Mr Snow .............in a few years time, he he.

in and out of the 260. I know a very weak link  ;D

The next theme up was Something from a Book. It did take me a while to think of what to make,
but I don't think I have ever tried to make Winnie The Pooh.
It is a difficult shape to try and re-create.

I made the large design for the challenge of the day but then after wanted
to see if I could make a more real world line work design.
I have started a separate thread for that and how we tried quite a few
face and body designs till we ended up with something that
I was reasonably happy with.

The next theme was one of my favourite things.

Now I did not read the blurb on this and thought it was your favourite balloon design, oops.
Best I copy Rob's blurb and you can see how I went wrong,

Morning everyone, So today we have 'One Of My Favourite Things',
now this is NOT one my MY favourite things, and its not something
from the song 'My Favourite Things'. What you need to make is one
of YOUR favourite thing, something non balloon related. Maybe a
hobby of yours? or something you like to eat? or something you
like from the TV or Cinema?, maybe a favourite childhood toy?
or that bottle of antibacterial hand gel you cling to so much?
So the point of these challenges is for you to try something
new and make something different to what you would
normally do. Please don't upload old photos of things
you have already made elsewhere, why not have a go
as something you've not done before?

I posted the Owl as I made a video tutorial to post onto the balloon
artistes guild facebook page to help promote the club.
This is the link if you'd like to make the design,

Mine was more like a branch by the time I finished it  ;D

The next theme was a positive message, I made the puffed heart with NHS sign.
I think getting the NHS to sit correctly took as long as making the heart.
I called this "Not Everything is Black and White"

I also made my very first Boomerang video with the design.
