I was asked yesterday if we could make a train for the picture showing of
The Polar Express at my local cinema on Saturday. Not much time to
plan so after chatting with them and saying it will be a generic
train which will have a few Polar Express features. We both
seemed happy and away we go, fingers crossed they like it.
Always a worry with a fairly big build.
I'm not the quickest at weaving, more a plodder.
The main centre section took about 2 hours.
I had a look in my head for the front of the train and this is how I saw it.
Sometimes what you think it would look like and what it does are different.
This was not to bad.
The wheel was not looking right to me. Bell was OK.
The underside to fix wheel and support the main body section.
Starting the rear cab section.
Last picture from Wednesday when we started building the train.
Thursday, Day Two of building the train.
I wanted to make the main section taller so added to the bottom of the
plinth and then put supports inside the main section so it went more
oval than round to gain some height. Added some smoke as well.
Putting the cab together.
Making the wheels and getting them looking similar size....
that's a bonus ;D
Added the front snow plough section which was hard to gauge.
Attached the rear wheel and chrome 260 to cab Friday morning
before setting it up at the cinema late Friday night.
I did make the main oval section 4 rows longer at some point but
not sure when this was. It needed to look a little longer to me.
Unloading at the venue and the spot to put all five sections together.
Getting the wheels lined up was a bit of a challenge especially working at the
cinema with everyone looking at you. It was like being in a gold fish bowl.
Last of the train pictures.
