I made a large Christmas tree recently for a company. It looked amazing when I did it, I covered it with balloon shine, but a week later, it just looked a mess, really dull. It was still perfectly intact, just dull!!

If you make a balloon which you want to last more than just a few days, is there a way to keep it looking good without having to go back to it, unless of course any balloons pop?

Would it have looked better after a few days if I hadn't used Balloon shine?

We use cockpit spray - hate the messy hands with ballon shine (but it can be used anywhere without worry and does not have strange perfumes). cock pit spray still only lasts about a week or so then you have to respray, beware if you use it the floor can get slippy put an old towel or blanket down adn make sure there is plenty of ventilation.

The only place we have ever had balloon keep their shine is the NEC and we think that is something to do with their air conditioning system rather than anything we do

In the US cockpit spray is known as Armorall by Turtle Wax.

In the UK - it's an aerosol you can buy in halfords or any other car shop which is used for cleaning the dashboard (cockpit) of your vehicle.

Works REALLY well but don't buy the version with orange in it as it will pop the balloons on contact. It's easy to use and alot cheaper than a bottle of shine.

Thank you for the info. :)

Do you just spray it and leave it or do you have to wipe it in like balloon shine :?:

I use Sun-of-Gun (similar to Armorall). I've always wiped it (generously) on the balloons.  I get the feeling that perhaps the wiping process removes some of the powder and makes the shine last.  I've tested it here at the house with 260s and found that the shine lasted longer than the balloons held their shape.  I don't know if the shine would outlast 11" rounds though.

Tip: Don't use cockpit spay with lemon, the baloons don't like that also!

As said buy it in any car cleaning area even supermarkets these days bought my last lot from asda about £3 for a big tin. so a lot cheaper too..

You just spray it and leave it, so no messy gloves and hands.... but do it out side or in well ventilated area and cover the floor coz it makes it slippy (voice of experience!)

have fun experimenting
