Hi All,

Just a quick question, I did an olympic themed arch a couple of weeks ago which was outside, and very quickly the balloons went dull. I assuming it was the heat and sun light that affected them, am I right? If so is there anything you can do to stop this from happening?

(I know on this one you can see a little of the hoop I used because as the balloons were put a couple burst :-/)

Hi Michelle!

Fantastic decor!!  :D

There's not much you can do once the balloons start oxidising, unfortunately, and this happens as soon as they are inflated.  Being outside and in the heat will rapidly increase this process.

I believe balloon shine (or some car bumper/dashboard cleaners) can delay it, but you can't prevent it and that's an awful lot of balloons there to shine!  It may not be cost effective given the time required to do this for that number...

I have (or had, when I was doing decor) a FAQ section on my website where I basically tried to 'manage expectations' by saying that oxidising balloon were completely normal and unavoidable and was not a reflection on the balloons, as I always use the best ones produced (Qualatex).

I hope this helps.

Brilliant decor you've produced though!

Best wishes

Hi there is a link in balloon chit chat topics to an article on BHQ that Sara (snurb) posted for me when I was asking the same question. Definitely worth a read. Excellent article about a lot of stuff to do with balloons that I learnt a load from. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info guys, see Neil the air inflator came in handy on this occasion

The arch I just air inflated balloons, and plumbers pipe from B&Q, the rings I brought 5 hoola hoops from the pound shop, then my husband just screwed them together for me in the sequence of the rings.

YOUR WORK IS GORGEOUS. I MADE A TINKERBELL WITH 260S THE DAY BEFORE A PARTY BECAUSE THAT IS WHEN THE CLIENT WANTED IT. SHE GOT VERY DULL AND SHE WAS INSIDE NOT EXPOSED TO LIGHT OR HEAT....................

I TOO USE QUALATEX. GUESS IT IS AHARD THING TO AVOID.

we discussed balloon shine and dashboard spray at your course Michelle - both will stop 'dulling' and bring you balloons back to life if they do
