Something that really bugs me is when I've spent time making the perfect display for an event, and then watch as someone lets their child/toddler kick it about, or watching some drunk who thinks he's funny by trying to hug a pillar and knocking it over and then leaving it, or walking up to your balloon displays and kicking them about!!!

I say this because a couple of times I've done décor, and then been present at the party/event performing a show or balloon modelling after.

The latest was at a party on Sunday, I had two kids parties that day, and the second wanted balloon décor as well. I had two hours between shows so it was no problem. I had pre-blown up 30 balloons with ribbons and weights first thing in the morning and put them in a huge bag to give me a head start.

She also wanted an arch at the entrance and a couple of simple table decs.

What really bugged me was watching as a toddler was chucking the weight from the arch in the air, eventually, the bottom balloon popped, while the toddler's dad was stood watching thinking how funny it was . . . . . his kid wasn't even invited to the party.

I prefer not to be at these events, I would rather make the balloons required and then not be present to watch them get ruined.

Do you guys feel the same way??

Yes know exactly where you are coming from!! Its Hard and heart breaking you put your time, your skills, your effort into making the event and they just abuse and destroy it. But you have to let them go and belong to them, you have exchanged all that for money!!!

Remember us doing a corporate event many years ago for Nat West Bank, not long after we had started balloon decor. The room was fantastic as a decorator as it had an eggshell style ceiling you could tie to easily so we could offer assorted airfilled decor hanging which obviuosly costs less than helium filled as well as table decorations, entrance etc, so we had balloons everywhere and they booked us for the Disco in the evening.

At 12.30pm they started attacking the balloons and totally destroying the room decor.  Paul was so upset by what was happening I had to remind him they where no longer HIS balloons and that he had exchanged them for the cheque in his pocket and a few photos.

A fact of life we have to live with I am afraid is WE SELL THEM to someone else. Sorry we have accept they do not have the same perception or love of them as we do..

I really feel for you Graeme and I am sure I will feel the same way when I finally get going but Pam is right.  Once you accept payment for your creations they are no longer yours to protect, however, I still feel the same when I have made a child a nice balloon model and they promptly start unravelling it or popping it

I think there is an element of having to detach yourself from it once the things are gone, like Yvonne said and Pam once the money has changed hands they belong to the customer and that's it they can do what they like.  For me so long as the brief has been met and the customer is happy, although I find it frustrating that they then might trash my efforts, I just switch off from it.

Personally, I can't see the point of paying for a load of balloons to decorate a room and then trashing them, but if that's what they want to do so be it, their loss as I'm sitting pretty with their money in my pocket  :D

Thanks guys, I know what your saying is right, but after all your hard work, it's so difficult watching it get distoryed. . . . . . just have to learn that once I'm paid it doesn't belong to me.
