Hi Tony, I started doing décor this year and have not looked back it is great to create with out having to entertain sometimes ;)  The first thing I did was invest in The Qualatex Balloon Network Kits  http://www.qualatex.com/pages/qbn_members.php this was my foundation and money well spent, after watching the DVDs you will know which way you want to go with balloon décor and invest appropriately. I hope this helps plus also read all the posts on here they are a gold mine and have definitely helped me. All the best, Royston.

It really depends on what sort of thing they are looking at doing. Different types of decor require different equipment. You would be worth looking on BalloonsIT at their deco tools as they will give you step by step instructions that you can buy.

I think moving into decor is an obvious step for anyone but I have to say with a word of warning, you need to have so much stock as people ask for the oddest things and want it today so you dont always have time to get to the wholesalers before the event, also, there are alot of must have (or at least you think you need) items of equipment and it can get quite expensive before it starts to make a return for you but keep at it and it will.
How many other occupations  love what they do?

Absolutely spot on Ali.  This is why I think Tony needs to look a little more closely into what he wants to do for this event in order to know what he will need.

You will find that you will be a while before you break even as it is very unlikely that your client will want all air filled décor so at best you will need to hire a large enough cylinder of helium to last you the job easily (and a spare just in case), an inflater (this will vary depending on what type of helium you go for and how you prefer to inflate) and obviously your balloons etc.  In addition you will need balloon sizers, weights, ribbons and various other bits depending on what décor you are making.

As I say your best bet is to look on BalloonsIT or Qualatex (not sure they still let non-QBN's/CBA's see the instructions but if they do that is free) as this will give you a good idea of what is possible, how to do it, the materials needed and the length of time it should take you so you can plan appropriately.  You will also need to get hold of a job cost form so you can work out how much to charge as it is not quite as simple as a price per hour as your material costs are a lot more significant in décor!
