Hi,
I'm generally a live party twister but received a decor request that I'm considering.

They want several Spongebob characters - and I've seen balloon artists making balloon creations that are described as a parody of the cartoon character and which are done so openly I assume it must be legal.

What are the guidelines for creating a legitimate parody of a famous character?

Also- I know isn't appropriate to give price suggestions as in "You should charge X amount" but I'm wondering if someone could give an idea how to price decor creations as compared to a comparable number of hours od live twisting.

Qualatex has a Job Cost Form.

We will all continue to make balloon parodies until one of us are sued for breach of copyright. I hope I am not the first.

I see.

One person explained it to me this way - so long as the balloon is a creative act in itself (figuring out how to make something out of balloons as opposed to taking a premade design and just printing it on a balloon) that's fine.

Seems like it should be more or less the same thing as drawing caricatures of celebrities-

my costing is BE honest

Cost of all the materials you use.... x 4 = MINIMUM charging price don't forget at times you need to add for artisitic value
