Can you use the glue and glitter on latex? or is it just for foils?  I've just tried it and the static on the latex has left a lot more glitter on the balloon than I had hoped for!

I have just spent the afternoon with a friend trying to sort out décor for her brother's wedding and have hit so many stumbling blocks that I could do with getting this one sorted!  Her brother is getting married in Cameroon and helium is not available (or at least not very easy to source) and my friend is flying out the day before the wedding.  We have come up with décor we think can work at the venue, without helium and in the time she has taking into consideration the volunteers she will have to help inflate balloons etc and what she can bring across in her luggage.

We have finally settled on rose pink and white theme but then I have discovered that Qualatex do not do the rose heart foil in a 36" only the pearl pink!  Not entirely convinced that the pearl pink foil will go with the rose pink latex but I have seen that they do a 36" latex rose heart but my friend wants to personalise them for her brother and his new wife.

Hi Yvonne

I've used latex balloons dipped uninflated in hi-float, then once inflated I've sprinked confetti over them.  Glitter will stick to the hi-float on the outside of a latex balloon too, but the 'finer' the decoration (glitter instead of confetti, for example) the harder it will be to control because of the static of the latex.  It's easier to pick bits of confetti off as opposed to glitter!

Hope this helps - good luck

Depends what you are looking to do Yvonne.. Whenour daughter got married in St Lucia - we took 5" balloons to create topiaries with balloon straws and 6 x 4" tote bags (we filled with sand from the beach) made excellent air filled decor  all filled witha small hand pump and took up a small amount of luggage space - we also took lots of puff bows rolled but not fluffed and fluffed them there.

hope this helps

Well my friend has specific ideas and I have said I'm not sure she'll get it all done in the time she has but one of the things she really wants to do is to make 2 columns and have huge hearts on top onto which she wants to write the bride and grooms names etc in blue glue and glitter.  I had hoped it was possible on the latex as I can get a 36" rose latex heart but the biggest foil one I can get is 18" and I think that may look a little silly as would using a pearl pink foil when the rest of the column (and the décor) is rose pink!

Hi Yvonne,

I have regularly writen names and numbers on Latex balloons using glue and glitter. To get rid of the excess I find that I just have to give the balloon a couple of forceful 'flicks'.

You would probably have to do this before the balloon was attached to the column.

Martin.

Excellent.  Thanks Martin, that's good to know it can be done otherwise I think it may have either looked silly or we would have had to change the colours ... again!

I don't know if this is what you are looking to do, but I had a little girl want glitter on a birthday angel.  I used glitter glue and spread it around with my finger.  It worked pretty well, I had to coat it pretty thickly to see the glitter though.  I used the kind in the bottles similar to these.  You can even draw on the balloons with them. If you draw on them...just give them about 24 hours to dry completely.

I wonder if you could just mix the glitter in some Hi-Float and rub it on the outside of the balloon...hmmm...I'll have to try that :-)

Here are pics of the angel..

Hi Yvonne
With regard to mixing Pearl Pink and Rose together, this is not a problem, in fact why don't you suggest that she add's in a few other different shades of pink too. like Wild Berry or Magenta. Working with tints, tones and shades makes decor look so much more exciting. This way, you can use the Pearl Pink 36" heart with no problem as there would be Pearl Pink within the columns too. Also have you considered not creating spiral columns, but random colour use instead, again for weddings this is a much softer look, I always like to add in some Diamond Clear also, as this keeps the whole design light and airy. I have attached a couple of designs that demonstrates the use of working with tints, tones and shades, it works well for weddings especially.

Good luck!

Thank you for all your help but it is all change again!!!  Apparently the bride wants peach / orange for her balloons so it is back to the drawing board.  I'll have to see what I can get in what sizes etc although I think Orange, peach and white will look lovely in the sunshine.  I also need to see if I can work out how long I think it will take to do everything my friend is hoping to achieve as I don't think she will have enough time regardless of how many people she has helping her.
