Title: Graham Lee DVD 3 Step by Step
Post by: Graham Lee on November 04, 2015, 09:31:21 AM
We will be moving on shortly to DVD 3, "A Romantic Twist" My first thoughts are it will be difficult to take three items from here as one of the flowers is an origami fold and will be
a nightmare to take pictures step by step. Then we have the flower inside dome that I taught at the NABAS balloon event a couple of weeks back, and again holding the 646
while trying to insert the flower and also taking a picture.............a challenge it will be. I have a soft spot for this DVD, there is a review on the website about it as well
at the bottom of the page.

http://www.balloonartwholesale.co.uk/quala ... dvd-vol-3/ (http://www.balloonartwholesale.co.uk/qualatex/a-graham-lee-dvd-vol-3/)

So I will need to run through it and see what I can share, but this will be when I get back from the best balloon convention in the world,
The Millennium Jam.

I was trying to find a better picture of the DVD cover. This is the older cover as I'm sure some can see?

I had a quick look through the DVD today and as I thought it will be difficult to do a step by step on the roses as they are made with an origami method which I think
will be very awkward to photograph. The flower inside balloon will be another one that will be a challenge to photograph as you need both hands to hold the
flower inside the clear balloon. I will go to plan B and only share two ideas from this DVD, a flower from the flower in vase and the heart design.
We do have a special guest appearance with a beautiful flower design but as it's not my design I do not think it right to share that.

So we will explain the lilac flower in picture three and the heart shape in the first picture.

I will be putting the instructions up for the love heart, the 160 all red heart is made from four 160's and the 260 heart from eight 260's.

The top of the heart uses more of the balloon, I like to have the joints between the two sections that are 2 and 2 bubbles.
It hides them easier, it would be easier to construct and to do a joint on a 2 and 1 bubble but hiding the mechanics is a little more difficult.

This will make no sense now but the code for the first four balloons from the knot where I start is,

2 and 2
2 and 1
2 and 1
2 and 1
1 and 3
2 and 1
2 and 1
2 and 1
2 and 2

Then the next four balloons it is,

2 and 2
3 and 1
2 and 2

I have used separate colours only so it might be easier to follow, inflate the four 260 balloons and leave approx. 8 fingers un-inflated.
Tie two sets of two together, all bubbles are 2 fingers in the heart that I made.
So make two 2 finger bubbles in the rose and pink balloons and then twist these together,
make sure it is a very tight join, really squeeze the two sets of two together when you twist together.
Make sure you twist these around each other well otherwise they will un fold later on during construction of the heart.

You now need to make two sets of 2 bubbles in the outer colour and two sets of 1 bubble for the inner section of the heart.
Twist these together tightly and twist around a couple of times.

Also twist one colour from the outer section around the inner section, this will hold it all securely together so much better.

Make another set of two lots of 2 bubbles for the outer heart and two lots of one bubble for the inner heart.
Don't forget all bubbles are 2 fingers in length.

Twist the second section of 2 and 1 bubbles together.

Then make the last set of 2 and 1 bubbles for this side of the heart and twist securely together.

We now move on to the 1 and 3 section, twist two 2 finger bubbles in the outer colour and twist them together.

Then make two 2 finger bubbles in the inner section of the heart, twist together another set of bubbles and twist together securely.

Hold these tightly as they will try to come un twisted until you twist the inner and outer section together a little later.

Make your third set of 1 and 1 bubbles and twist these securely.
You should have one set from the outer part of the heart and three sets from the inner section.

You now need to start twisting the 2 and 1 section for the other side of the heart.

Twist the 2 and 1 section together securely.

Then make the next 2 and 1 section and twist together securely.

In the last picture you will see the last 2 and 1 section BUT
I forgot to take a picture for this next step but you just twist the last 2 and 1 section together
before making the 2 and 2 section which will be the last bubbles from the set of four balloons.

Tie the two sets of 2 bubbles together,
I loop two of the ends of the balloon through the side of the heart and then through the front, really making for a tight joint.
This is very important.

Your top section of heart will hopefully look a little like this?

Inflate four more 260 balloons to approx. half way, you only need a small section of this balloon.

Tie the balloons into two sets of 2 with the same colour combination if you are making like this.

Make two sets of 2 finger bubbles in both portions of the inner and outer heart and twist together securely.

You then need a 3 and 1 section on the heart, the inner section just one 2 finger bubbles twisted together
and then on the outer section 3 sets of 2 finger bubbles individually twisted together.

Then twist the inner and outer section together as in the picture.

We are down to the last section of two 2 finger bubbles in the inner and outer section that are then twisted together securely.

Discard the excess and tie together.

Before tying the two sections together cut off from both sides one set of knots, it will keep the joint neater when tying together.

I stretch the 260's before pushing the knots through the side of the heart and then bring these knots out the front lower
section and pull as tight as I can into the top section and back again.

Quite hard to describe but the heart looks clean and you have to look twice to see the joints.

A little plug, all this is on DVD 3 "A Romantic Twist" with details for my origami flower as well, just in case anyone would like to buy it?

This is the link, http://www.balloonartwholesale.co.uk/balloons/dvds-books/ (http://www.balloonartwholesale.co.uk/balloons/dvds-books/)

any questions though on making the heart then please fire away and I will try to answer them.

I took pictures of the finished heart from two angles to show how well the knot can be hidden up.

The 160 heart is made the same way but with only four balloons and all the bubbles just over a 1 finger bubble size.
You only have one joint with this, the balloons should be inflated leaving approx. 8 fingers un-inflated.

Thanks for posting the instructions. I decided to put a heart inside it but the shape was not right for that particular heart so I took a view bubbles out.

Quote from: "Thelma Levett"Thanks for posting the instructions.
I thought  you had the DVD this was on Thelma?

I like your heart, assuming you have drawn on the centre heart? Looks really nice.

I was having a play with the flower design I will be putting the instructions up for next.
Having the flower half in and half out the vase, you can see all the other variations on a thread here.

This is the flower that I put inside a 350 clear.

From the 260 balloon you could easily get three flower heads.

Inflate the 260 approx. half way, you then need to make three pinch twists that are approx. 2.5 fingers in length.

In the picture I have tied the twists between the bubbles to take the picture, when making I do not do this, it was just for clarity of the photograph.

You can make three separate 2.5 finger pinch twists but I prefer to make two 2.5 finger bubbles and tie the knot around and through the centre of the two bubbles to secure.

I then take the knot of the balloon over the centre of these two bubbles and twist one of the bubbles while I do this, it forms the two bubbles into two pinch twists.

By making the pinch twists this way I feel the size of bubble and the pressure inside both bubbles are constant.

Make another 2.5 finger bubble and twist this back into the two pinch twists so creating the third pinch twist.
Again I have tied this twist into a knot just to take the picture.

You then need two 1 finger bubbles and twist the balloon back into the pinch twists.

I then take the 260 and wrap this through the 3 pinch twists and over the centre of the two 1 finger bubbles,
I do this a couple of times to make the 1 finger bubbles into pinch twists.

I always just have two small pinch twists for the centre of the flower but you could possibly add a third to keep it looking symmetrical.

The stem, you do not need to use all the 260 green here so I inflate the 260 to a 3 finger bubble and have a 4 finger un-inflated section at the knot.
Later we will cut this off.

Tie a knot below the 3 finger bubble and leave a little excess on the balloon as we have to make the 3 finger bubble into three 1 finger bubbles.
By having the knot here it is easier to make the three 1 finger bubbles, the bubble is unable to move down the balloon as it would if the knot was not here.

Again for the picture I have tied a knot around the bubbles, I do not do this when making.

These three bubbles are made the same as we did the head for the flower, wrap the knot around the second bubble and push this through the two bubbles.
As you wrap the knot over the centre of these two bubbles, twist one of the bubbles as well and this will create the two pinch twists.

Take the last 1 finger bubble and wrap this over the two pinch twists to make your third pinch twist.

I then take the green 260 and tightly wrap this around the lilac flower head and over the top of the two small 1 finger pinch twists.
Wrap this over and around a few times between the flower head and stem of the flower for a tight secure joint.

I had an idea a few days ago to try the flower using a 350 balloon, I think the three smaller pinch twists work for the centre of the larger flower and then I added the end of the 350 for the centre of the flower.

So I now have another flower in the repertoire to use as I looked back on an old DVD.

If you have some DVD's that it's been a while since you viewed then perhaps have a look as what interested you then might be different now
and with your added experience perhaps you can add to a design?

Good luck and I hope these two designs from DVD 3 " A Romantic Twist" have helped?

PS, I did not use all the 160 for the stem,
I cut off approx. 5/6 fingers from the knot end and then left a 4 finger section un-inflated to make the stem.

There are instructions here from DVD two on how to make the stem. graham-lee-dvd-two-step-step-t10218.html (http://balloonchat.co.uk/graham-lee-dvd-two-step-step-t10218.html)
