Title: Balloon Supports and Stands
Post by: Coolinflations on September 02, 2013, 12:50:45 PM
Hi all

I make a Bride and Groom model which are quite popular for weddings around my area.  The Bride tends to stand up unaided but the Groom is essentially stood on two 260s and topples over.  I am not happy woth the makeshift stands I ahve been using to support him and was wondering if anyone had any advice?  I ahve seen online that some people use this metal stands that are hardly visible but I can't find them anywhere!?

Any suggestions gratefullt received - I have another Wedding on Saturday.

How tall are you making the groom? Have you got a picture? I use 646 for 2 legs or if I don't have the correct colour use 2 350s but doubled up( so they end up with 4 legs lol) but that's for full size.

If I want a stand for anything I use Argos cheap up lighter floor lamp just under 6 pounds and remove the electrics

It all depends what size you are trying to make...

Hi there,

If the groom is on two 260s I'm guessing it is not that huge, and this base seems to work ok for me

You can use water in it, or fine sand, which is what I use as I live at the sea-side  :D  :D

Here is the base supporting a stork that I made last month

For anything bigger, you need the ikea lamp base Sonia is talking about. I will find a link to it for you

Hi chaps - thanks for the advice.  My couple are about 2-3 feet high. I'll attach a picture.  I am currently using doweling with a wooden base - not very attractive, but I am learning as I go - I started balloon twisting in January lol

They look a lovely couple  :D

Another way of supporting them is to put them on 3 260s braided together, and make an arch of a 360 behind them.

It makes a nice feature, and tying the figures on with uninflated balloons makes it really secure.

this piece was about 30"tall

That looks perfect!  I'll get straight onto putting together an arch after work tonight and post a picture for you.  Thanks to everyone for all your help  (Smiley face - can't figure how to attach that yet lol)

For a smiley face, simply put : and ) right next to each other. :) :) :)
