Hi All,

I've posted my Capt. Barnacles (from Octonauts) in the picture gallery under C. He is attempt no 2 at the design, but is still quite wonky and drunk looking! As I beginner, I'm struggling with getting my bubbles the same size and getting my pinch twists small enough. Is it just those problems that are making him wonky, so I just need more practice or are there some tips that you could give me to improve the design?

Many Thanks,
T xx

I am no expert but have found that over complicating arms and legs does detract from the finished design sometimes. I have found that keeping limbs a bit more simple whilst having e detail in the head can help. Here is a tiger I posted a while ago. I use this style body and limbs for many models.hope this helps in some way. Your head is great as it is.

Thanks Stuart,

I've been having a wee think about the design and going back to pictures of him. His head is much bigger than his body. So you are definitely right that having a complicated body detracts from the overall impression of the model. I like the idea of him having his elbows out and hands at the waist though as that is quite a characteristic stance for him. I'm also thinking about using balloons for his nose/mouth details as I feel that would make it more like him, especially if I could build it into a rounder face! Lots to think about and designs to plan :)

Thanks again
Tat

You beat me to it Rhian and yours is far better than mine. I also used a very random selection of blues.

They're brilliant :-)

Not got a hope of making Rhian's anytime soon though! I did manage my first sidewall bubble today - but it was HUGE! & then I popped the main balloon instead! Whoopsie ;-)

Still onwards and upwards (or should that be explore, rescue, protect!)

Rhian - where the leg goes into the boot - is that the leg balloon going into a tulip twist in the boot balloon? (Today's ponder has been whether you can put other balloons into tulip twists!)

Thanks

That's exactly it :) It's called a marriage twist.

Excellent :) I need to go through Graham's twists tutorials and see what other ones I'm missing :)
