For those of you who have made the bike from volume 9 of the David Grist collection, what height of stool did you use, what type and where did you get it from. I can't wait to try it but don't want to get the wrong thing.
Thanks
Kindest Regards
Stuart

I've always struggled with putting a stool into the bike so kept away from it, I was going down the route of the screw seat type so you can adjust for different people if need be.
I have one downstairs so remind me tomorrow and I will take a picture and post, it's three legged.

Here is the stool, the centre screws up or down for height adjustment.

Hi Stuart,

I "created" one from Davids DVD 9 instructions about 3 weeks ago for a 40th (I will have to post the pics...but some are up on my facebook page) the Stool was an inexpensive fold up (about £8.00) from one of the high street retailers in Goole.....but I am sure charity shops / £ shops retailers will have them.... taht way you can make it leave it and forget it... (though the kind folks returned the stool)

I will get pictures of the stool and model up later...... if you need any more info ....... ;)

regards

This was a venue created for a 40th Birthday, the lady is a motorbike enthusiast......
Large "sit on" Motorbike courtesy of David Grist's DVD (had to add the 16" doughnut because the front one had an accident too close to the start of the celebrations)
The smaller ones (on each table acting as balloon weights) are courtesy of Mr Bomas..............
The Stool supporting the large bike is courtesy of a charity shop..... but available in many retailers for about £7.00

Thanks everyone for the pictures and advice and experience. I have ordered a cheap fo'd up stool and will give it a go hopefully towards the end of this week. Will post pictures of stool, bike and a review of how both went together here when I am done.
Kindest Regards

Looking forward to the review Stewart,

On my first attempt It was easy to follow David's explanation and the demonstration .. ..

my problem is and always has been memory retention / self confidence.. I need to do something a few times for it to stick...and then do it again...so I had to keep checking the DVD to ensure I was on track ...

If anything I would replace the tyres with those that Graham has developed / created. (if he wouldn't mind) and ensure you keep the connection points to/near the stool reasonably soft.

Good luck and Crack on..! ;)

Ok, as promised. I purchased a stool the same style as the one used in David's DVD and it cost £8. My first issue was popping balloons whilst attaching to the stools there was a quick release mechanism on one side and where this was there was also a couple of tiny sharp bit of metal. I resolved this by covering it with a couple of layers of material. The bike itself then came together well. I took the easier option of geo donuts for wheels but they seemed to fit the size of the bike. (The bikes others have made seem much bigger and perhaps this is achieved by adjusting the size of the stool used and size of woven parts).
Everyone that saw it loved it and it certainly is something I will do again. It is the perfect size for younger children and my class had fun today having their photo taken with it.
I do really like the design and would recommend the dvd to others (David Grist - volume 9)
Thanks for the help everyone.
Kindest Regards
Stuart

Very well done, and, if I may say, the suit is almost  as impressive as the motorbike!  :D

Well done Stuart,

Great Job, nice attention to detail and I have to agree the suit is spot on!  :D

I had to create a smaller version for a customer yesterday in 260's it was a challenge "scaling it all down"...using the silver "engine blocks" rather than the stool to keep it all solid to the framework.  (and forgot to take a picture...)

Here is the odd thing Graham, I used 350 balloons as instructed, I used a stool that must have been about the same size as the one David used (45cm tall). I built the parts (like the tank and engine) with the same number of bubbles in the weave. And yet  it still look much smaller. I can't figure out why. My only thought is that perhaps it would have looked bigger if I had used the wheels suggested. Oh well, at least it turned out well.
