Does anyone have a good resource for learning to draw better faces (books or websites)? I thought I was an "ok" artist, until I started drawing faces onto my models and it looks like a spider drew them!!!

I know Mdm Twister does some awesome faces and the expressions really bring the model to life.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you get the chance to come to one of the care & share days it would be good to talk with a face painter about drawing on the balloons as you can always tell a twister who face paints as there faces are so much better.
Or you could get in touch with a local face painter & do a swap, get some tips from them while showing them how to twist.

I have a useful booklet called "Faces faces balloon faces" by Dale Obrochta which is from USA.

I ordered it through T Meyers, but I'm sure other places stock it too.

Hi Popsie... where u found out abt Mdm Twister..? youtube or her website..? curious..  cos That's ME!!!  :lol:  :oops:  I love to draw ... and draw on balloons not an easy task .. i learnt by looking at other's too ....

I've found that books on drawing cartoons have examples of eyes, noses, muzzles, and other good information about placement, shapes, and so forth. Look for books on both human figures and animals. I find these at the larger arts and crafts stores in the USA, but don't know where to advise you to look in UK.

One tip I've found helpful is to draw one thing, like perhaps a muzzle, several times and then to add different eyes to the same muzzle to see how many different effects I can achieve. You could make several of the same balloon models (a litter of puppies?) and try the same approach.

try this site. theres step by step instructions and you could draw them on round stickers to save time at a gig (tonytwist gave me the site so thank him) theres eyes, noses,mouths etc...Just click on the one you like.

Very kind of you to say so Graham but not always true  :oops: Mine look awful as the pens and the canvas are very different to what I am used to.  I am just about to go off and look at the website posted above to see if it will help me out too!

You might also want to contact a dutch guy, Simon Jong. He gave a class on this year's Millennium Jam about drawing on balloons...
