I think I should have posted this earlier, Olivia Post is organising a big balloon build
to celebrate the 950th anniversary of the battle of Hastings 1066.
I think there are 17 people helping out with this, if anyone would like to help donate a few pennies
Olivia would be very grateful.
The Build is happening on the 10/11/12th Oct

I'm not sure Olivia has a facebook page for it but if I find one I will post the details.
All set up for tomorrow, tables, pumps and balloons all ready and the size of the turrets
worked out. No phone reception at the school hall so that might be a bit of a challenge.
Full pictures to come but possibly not till I get home on Thursday.
Just back from the build, a little tired as it was three long days and I never sleep to great when away.
The first two nights I woke at ten to six and today I was awake at ten to four.
Still all done and pleased with the outcome, will post some pictures tomorrow.
This might be a little too much info for some but last night I had the worst cramp ever in my legs.
I did dink some water during the day but obviously not enough, I could not stand, I was in agony.
Anyway back to the pictures form the event, before we start posting them if anyone could spare the odd pound or a couple
of dollars that would be fab as Olivia went ahead with the build even thought she had only raised 50% of the money required.
This is the go fund me page if you would like to help, in the long run I think the plan is to do a big build every two years.

Here we go then with some of the pictures.
Paul ready to do some of the filming.
I'm not sure if this got on the TV but just found it on the BBC Sussex website,
the presenter is making a balloon dog for Dan and I'm twisting the ship.................sorry the bed in the background.

Just added it to my facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/graham.lee.9634 (https://www.facebook.com/graham.lee.9634)
I have just arrived home and I have started to edit photos and video timelapses, after a quick count I have just worked out I took 100gb worth of photos and video (yes I did mean 100gb) and if you are wondering how many photos . . . . 16,037 . . . . . . . yes that is SIXTEEN THOUSAND photos . . . . slideshow anybody? actually most of these will be converted into timelapses :)
I thought I took a lot at 271 but I think your camera was clicking every 5 seconds on remote.
I'm not clever enough to work out how to do that or even if my camera would have that facility.
I look forward to seeing all 16,000 pictures, could you post them all individually on balloon chat?
ROFL

Yes of course Graham, if I post 9 per day I worked out it will take me nearly 5 years to post them all, is that ok? :D

Rob
Perfect, then I can have a bit of a rest, thanks for that............he he!
Paul having a laugh.
Everyone worked on the walls and towers for the first day.
All hard at work, Roger preparing the doomsday book.
Deciding where exactly the walls should go.
Well the official time lapse video is up on youtube.

I have really enjoyed watching this progress. Thanks everyone it looks amazing!!
It looks like the build has made the ITV news as well.

They used the video I did, how cool :D
Im going to post photos too but I will try and avoid anything too similar to Grahams photos as you I don't want to double up and bore you all. :)
I was sharing a room with Paul AND Olivia AND her 2 cats, I also had my slippers ready for the hall and Pickles the cat fell asleep next to them
Graham and Steve working on the first turret
Lining up the wall to get the correct height
and Roger taking a quick break
Amazing work, well done all. I wish i could have been part of it. ;)
At the end of day one, we all went for a walk on the beach at Hastings.
A few pictures from Hastings.
It was interesting to see the tractor pushing the fishing boat into the water.
Thelma after her paddle, the last pictures looks a little dodgy with Rob.
I think he was just reading a notice board.
In the local paper, http://www.ryeandbattleobserver.co.uk/n ... -1-7630700 (http://www.ryeandbattleobserver.co.uk/news/1066-anniversary-artists-create-giant-balloon-castle-1-7630700)
More from around town.
Some were definitely more organised than others with plans.
Then it was onto day two.
Apart from plans a little scaled design, a very good idea really.
The back of the Bayeux Tapestry that Amanda, Dan and I put together
.......and possibly others helped with?
Here are a couple from the end of day 1, The end of day 1 photo, Graham working on the turrets and then an outing to Hastings.
Another fun one from the beach on the Monday evening. and here is my model chair before it got squashed in the back of my van.
I have been posting parts of the build as timelapses on Youtube,
Here is Graham building his Bedship - //https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCCn3b2Bu6o
And here is Roger building his Doomsday book - //https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znsfa8hpfgU
At least the main chair never got squashed. Deciding the height of things to come.
The book coming along and Dan's horses for the tapestry.
Things coming together.
The castle build made it onto the end of this blog, the bonus footage, the last minute.

Everything coming along, still on day two of the pictures.
Having a quick walk around to get more pictures.
It was interesting to see how people worked with each other,
sometimes it's good to step back and watch the dynamics.
A couple more timelapses from me, im sorry its always the same music, I paid for it im going to get LOTS of use out of it :D
Here is Dan and his tapestry - //https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Rpo5U9yz5E
a short clip of Thelma and Jo - //https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWnXL-seIzM
Me and my Throne with Susie and Joanne - //https://youtu.be/SmVLkW8wec0
Olivia sitting down on the job, I noticed Thelma was sitting twisting as well.
I find that very difficult, I have to stand and twist.
The ship...........I mean bed coming together, did I mention everyone who came around
mentioned they thought it was a ship, mind you with a slightly different shape I could see why.
Paul after helping to make the castle lights, not sure what the technical name is for these.........................
I expect now I have mentioned that it will be light!
There was plenty of twisting going on.
Quote from: "Graham Lee"Paul after helping to make the castle lights, not sure what the technical name is for these.........................

Torch :)
Rob's chair finished, Thelma on her way to making Harold. Colin made the catapult.
Roger came up with the idea of putting a stool under my throne so that it could be sat on, lots of people wanted to have a go
I started work on Williams face and more wanted to try the throne,
The ladies working away.
A few more from day two.
Interview number two getting ready.
Joanne had an interesting way of making the balloon round ;)
Ine on the start of the garden for the castle.
Someone playing about with Rob's design......................................
I think it's shocking that someone would touch another design in this way ;)
So I wonder who did this?
Well the Hastings build featured briefly on Have I Got News For You tonight, I am not sure how long this is going to stay on Youtube for and its only a few seconds long so watch it while you can - //https://youtu.be/uRIfupRANl8
Danny making up the armoury.
The flowers were presented to Olivia for all her hard work from getting the project off the ground
from a few sketches to trying to raise funds and finding a venue to build the castle etc etc.
It was a mammoth task................thanks Olivia, I think it turned out as a great success.
A few figures from the tapestry.
More from the tapestry.
Clive posted the newspaper article over on facebook,
I try to put a link up to the site but could not find where it was from.
I did find this, http://www.ryeandbattleobserver.co.uk/n ... -1-7630700 (http://www.ryeandbattleobserver.co.uk/news/1066-anniversary-artists-create-giant-balloon-castle-1-7630700)
I promised I would not say who was tampering with Rob's design................
and I promise I will not say! Possibly the camera never lies?
Unless of course you are good with photo shop editor.
Harold and the garden coming along.
The armoury finished.
Some people then gave up and had to have a nap ;) :)
Amanda having 40 winks and then fluffing up her pillows
The build was finished, these are the pictures as I walked around the castle late Wed afternoon.
Joanne and Clive having a rest after the build.
Looking around the finished castle.
The tapestry finished.
A leisurely walk through the castle.
I have to say I did have a soft spot for King Harold's eye.........not sure why but it made me smile.
I'm still walking.
Still walking.
And yes sill walking, mind you if I was still I would not be walking.
Thought I would clarify that point.
Not many people knew that there was a sausage dog on the Bayeux Tapestry,
but there definitely was................and here is the proof.
The builder was made for the entrance hall as the project was sponsored by Post and Sons.
Danny had the idea of making some rats to put in some of the blank areas so on Weds evening after finishing the castle we all sat and made rats.
2 views with my panoramic camera and then a shot from inside
The finished castle as it looked on Thursday morning
Susie and I at the end of the day.
Amanda next to the bed, it was fun working with a group of people.
Different as we have to give and take a little as when we build on our own
we decide but a group situation changes some of the dynamics.................
which was interesting.
We took a couple of extra pictures of the bed as there was a little technical fault on the others,
on the bed spread, front left corner. Amanda added a 260 so it matched the other side.
I'm sure no one would have noticed except for Amanda and I.
