Balloon Chit Chat / Transparent colours
August 05, 2015, 01:29:23 PM
I'm sorting out my balloons, and have come across a few I got from assortment packs. I really like the colours - the name of most escape me but one is citrine yellow I think. I haven't seen any of these colours used in models made by people. So I was wondering does anyone on this forum use them? Which colours do you use and what models?

I especially like the purple coloured one, but I can't remember the name at all.
Thanks

I would really appreciate your thoughts on this. I adapted some of it, and made up the rest and came up with this:-

Balloon Tutorial & Help / Beating book seahorse advice
August 01, 2015, 08:34:01 PM
I'm having a spot of difficulty in getting marriage twist between an apple-twisted 5inch round, and a 321.
I have made an apple twist with the 5 inch round. With the scrap of balloon i tied the apple twist I tied to the knot of the 321. this in turn should be marriage twisted into the bottom (the point) of the 321. I can get the knot inside only so far into the 321 and then the whole thing crumples to the side giving me a hook twist.

If you can decipher what Ive said - how can i keep the 321 relatively long and make the marriage twist work? Video link would be greatly appreciated!

Balloon Tutorial & Help / Help with gaps!
August 01, 2015, 04:08:26 PM
I tried to make a body using 350qs and 260qs. It didn't really work. I didn't have anything to follow so I just made it up as I went. As you can see, there are huge gaps between all the balloons where I don't want gaps at all!

Any suggestions?

I just made a bear for my wife for our anniversary tomorrow. Any suggestions as to why the neck has ended up like this - what can I do to rectify it, and stop it happening again? I used 2, 350Qs - the neck is where they are joined. I have masked it by bodging together a bowtie which has worked nicely considering I did it without help!
Here he is:

And with bowtie:

Balloon Chit Chat / Private messages

I was wondering why when I've sent a message, is it still in the 'outbox'? Is it just that the other person hasn't read it yet?

Balloon Chit Chat / Balloon head help
July 26, 2015, 04:50:34 PM
I've seen pictures of the colin Myles bridegroom models and other balloon people which use an 11" round as the head and then 260s for hair. I bought the colin Myles weddings DVD mistakingly thinking I would be able to learn this from there, however the bride and groom design that everyone goes on about is not on there. So, I'm looking to learn how to make a head from 11" rounds and 260 hair (although as I don't know how to do it it might actually be 160 hair!)
Thanks, Ben

Balloon Chit Chat / First go at 'freehand'!
July 24, 2015, 05:25:51 PM
When I joined the forum I made a point of using the search function for 'trombone'. I found one picture someone twisted. I went away feeling all inadequate that all I could manage was a dog at the time! Two days ago I had a go at trying to make my own version of a trombone - here it is:

It is meant to be an R at the top - (Its an identifying mark of Rath trombones)

Balloon Chit Chat / Balloon bag contents?
July 24, 2015, 05:18:22 PM
I like to take my balloon bag with me to have a twist every now and then when I'm out and about. If anyone asks I'll make them something small too. What I wanted to know was what do you put in your bags and how many? Since my last delivery of balloons from Graham, I can't fit all of them in.

Balloon Tutorial & Help / A bee using a bee body?
July 21, 2015, 04:12:04 PM
I realise this may seem a silly question, but do people actually use bee bodies to make bees? At the steam rally I was at at the weekend, I was positioned next to a bee-keeping stand and I had a go at making a rudimentary bee from a yellow bee body  and a black 160. All I did was make the 160 into two wigs and wrap that around the 321. and I drew a face on. It was very simple and I wasn't pleased with it. So, after searching around I have seen loads of designs and DVD suggestions, but nothing to show that anyone has actually made a bee! Anyone help with a tutorial anywhere?!

I've tried searching the forum for large figure tutorials, but couldn't find anything. Understandably, so I'm looking for a DVD, or Book, that might be able to help me.
The idea I had was to make a man in a black suit. holding a guitar - I know a lot of music industry types and thought this might look good for promotional things. Thanks in advance,

Balloon Chit Chat / Marker pens
July 20, 2015, 09:54:07 AM
I have sharpies for drawing things on balloons, and yesterday at the event I was twisting at I used (for the first time) a silver sharpie. It was more like paint than silver ink, and as soon as there was some silver on the balloon it popped. The same happened when I used the white pen I have. (Not a sharpie)
Do you have any recommendations for silver/white/gold etc for drawing on balloons?

One thought I did have was that maybe the bristles of the pen popped the balloon, they do seem slightly bristly-er than the regular markers.

I have just got back from a weekend of twisting balloons all day! By the end of today I started to get the knack of blowing balloons up very softly so I can tie them without fear of my finger getting any more sore!
The most  popular model I made was the big octopus, but i need to think about time and financial implications of this model. I have never twisted for the public before, and as the event didn't pay me, I asked people to 'give me whatever they think was fair'. This worked for me, and I was actually asked if I could do a few more events from this. Onwards and upwards. Huzzah!

Balloon Chit Chat / Thank You
July 13, 2015, 09:39:02 PM
I just wanted to say thank you to Graham, and the rest of you guys for your support. I'm not a brilliant twister by any stretch of the imagination, but I love it, and I'm fairly proficient at the models I can do. I have my first event to twist at this weekend, and I would never have dreamed of doing such a thing without this forum. I'm hoping it goes well, but I'm worried about the weather. After I asked about how heat affects balloons I had two completely different responses!

Balloon Chit Chat / Balloon twisting tshirts

Balloon Chit Chat / First balloon gig
July 04, 2015, 04:37:00 PM
Hi,
In two weeks I have an event I'm going to attend to twist at. I'm only going to use a few designs so I don't get myself in a mess! Its at a steam rally held on a friends farm. Lots of other fringe activities like archery, falconry, animals to see, music etc. I wanted to take a chalkboard with me so I can write a 'menu'. Is this a good idea? I also thought about writing something like 'balloons are free, contributions welcome' as I'm not getting any money from the organisers to go. Could anyone advise something better/more eloquent to write than what I've thought?

Balloon Chit Chat / Balloon smell
June 21, 2015, 05:48:06 PM
I bought some balloons last year because I had the idea I wanted to put a selection of balloons and a pump on each of the tables at my wedding. I ended up buying 13 bags, and only putting half of them out! That meant loads of balloons left for me tot play with which is what had lead to my addiction now. So anyway, I decided that I'd like to buy an assortment of the larger balloons to see how big they are etc. I haven't used any yet, because I really don't have a clue what I can do with them! So just the other day, I tidied my balloons up and just left the larger ones out on the side of the sofa. Is it weird that I love the smell of them, or do any of you guys like the smell too?!
