I think the light box photos look very professional - not the pink butterfly one, though. It has the white thing showing on the side, and wrinkles in the blue background. Doesn't look good, but the others, especially the bunny, look great.

Love it.  Was thinking about getting one but now I am almost certain but I hadn't realised the inside of the box was blue! I had thought it was white from looking at their website?  :?  Definately makes the balloons look more vivid and like Cat said there is nothing distracting the eye from the model which is obviously a good idea  ;)

Oh that would be good cos you couldn't photograph anything blue in Graham's one as it just wouldn't show up  :)

The backdrop is only blue although the other side is grey, not sure you can turn it over though.
The dearer one had 4/5 different colour backdrops

Hi Graham, i have to agree with the others, having such a 'plain' or 'neutral' background definitely shows your models off much better.

Could i be as cheeky as to ask you to post a photograph of the photo box you purchased from Maplins? I'm confused as to what you actually get for your money (and i think a few others might be)

Here are the pictures. I think this may have been reduced to it being made wrong as you can't set up the box as per the instructions due to it being sewed together the wrong way.
The black on top of the light box should be on the floor underneath the blue background.

Before purchasing one of the Maplin lightboxes might I suggest you do a search on eBay under 'light tent' - if you do you will find that you can get a 80cm light tent for about £12 delivered.

Looking at the photos Graham has posted and Danny's in the rabbit thread it seems to me that the Maplin unit is just too small for most balloon models; after all the point of using this techique is to give the impression of no background rather than the impression of a model inside a box.

The model below is 65cm high and 48 cm wide and was taken in an 80cm light tent lit from the side with 1 household lamp; if I could be bothered to iron the back cloth then there would effectively be no background and as no flash is used there are no shadows either.

Cheers for the lead.  Just bought one from eBay but couldn't find any 80cm2 quite that cheap but still paid less than £14 for an 80cmx80cm pop up cube one with carry bag and 4 different coloured backgrounds  :D

Look forward to trying it out when it arrives  :geek:

Well it turned up today so I had to have a play  :D

My only citicism of it is that it is a git to get folded back up in it's carry bag as it is a pop up version ... and I am expert with pop up tents as my kids have more than one between them  ;)

I always use my doughtrs carpet.
Maybe not really professional, but it works for me.
Even bigger creatons fit on it!
So I have the same background almost every time.

The only thing is you can easely see if the picture is taken by day or in the eavening, becourse the colour differences.
