Twisted Cinema 1 – Bright light, bright light.

01-GremlinsA.jpg[/attachment:m933uf2y]

Hello everyone
Back in 2013, I made a balloon every single day for 365 days and I have since been itching to start another new balloon challenge. I now have set myself a new challenge and it is called Twisted Cinema. Each week I am going to publish a balloon twist photograph which is based on a famous movie scene or movie poster. The challenge will start now and continue all the way through 2015 with a new photograph every week.

I have decided to kick off with some Christmas themed films and for my first movie I have chosen the 1984 hit 'Gremlins'. For this I wanted to recreate the scene where the Gremlins take over the kitchen and Billy's Mum has to fight them off. In the film one of the gremlins ends up in the blender and another gets shoved into the microwave oven.

This photograph contains 3 individual sculptures, I have made Gizmo before several times and you can see him here – http://www.mydailyballoon.com/17th-may-gizmo/, the nasty Gremlin however is a new sculpture for me, I found a gremlin photo online and tried to make mine look as similar as possible. He is made from mainly 160s, Gizmo is made from a mixture of 160s and 260s. If you are wondering I have placed Gizmo back in his box and I will not feed him after midnight or get him wet.

Here is a clue for next weeks movie scene – "I'm sure I have forgotten something".

Hello everyone

It is time for my second Twisted Cinema balloon sculpture and this week I have gone for the 1990 Christmas movie 'Home Alone'. This is one of my favourite Christmas movies and I usually watch it every year. I thought long and hard about which scene to re-create from Home Alone and there were several that I had in mind including the Spider on Marv's face and Kevin escaping from the window with his home made zip line but in the end I decided to go for the main poster of the film as I thought it was very recognisable.
02---HomeAloneA.jpg[/attachment:1ykds5u3]
The photograph actually contains 5 separate sculptures, First I made Kevin's head and then I made his arms separately and attached them onto his face, Kevin's head is made from 350s and 160s with a couple of 5″ round balloons for the eyes and mouth. Marv and Harry in the background are 2 more sculptures and are made from 260s with some 160s for the hair and other parts.

Twisted Cinema week 3 - In God We Trust

03-In-God-We-TrustA.jpg[/attachment:2vp0dfoq]

Hello everyone, here is my 3rd twisted cinema picture, This one is based on a scene from the 1994 version of 'Miracle on 34th Street'. In the film a department store Santa and his lawyer need to prove in court that there IS such a thing as Santa Clause. My balloon scene is based on the moment when young Susan presents the judge with a dollar bill, on inspecting the bill the Judge see's the words "In God We Trust" circled in pen, The judge realises that since the U.S. Treasury can believe in God, the people of New York can believe in Santa Claus in the same way.

I have loved this film ever since I first saw it at the cinema and it starred Richard Attenborough as Kris Kringle and Mara Wilson as Susan, she was such a cute little girl. This picture took me ages to put together and I went about it quite an odd way, Firstly I made the model of Susan, I usually always make sculptures from the front but I wanted this to be the back of Susan so this was quite strange to build. Once I had made and photographed the sculpture it was time to photograph myself, I did this in the bath (I said it was odd), my bathroom has quite good lighting and I needed something to lean on so the edge of the bath was ideal. After I had those 2 pictures I built the rest of the picture up with various other textures and pictures.

Here is a very easy clue to next weeks sculpture - "God bless us, every one!"

Its week number 4 for my Twisted cinema series of photos, Its another Christmas themed one and I have managed to cover a multitude of films, musicals, plays and a very famous book with this one, Its a scene from the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol.

04-JacobMarleyA.jpg[/attachment:h8ya1uro]

I have always liked the story of a Christmas Carol and as Charles Dickens was born less than 3 miles from my house I thought I should do something suitable. Out of all the different films and musicals based on the original book I think the one I like the best is a Muppet Christmas Carol, the reason is simple, it is one of the few versions that brings the classic story to all ages of people (and the Muppets are awesome). I thought long and hard about what scene to make and I kept going back to Jacob Marley visiting scrooge in his bedroom.

I started with building Jacob Marley's head and for this I used the Phileas Flash head design (instructions available on DVD from //http://www.flashballoons.com/). Once I had the head I slowly built up the body adding the arms, legs and finally the chains, the final sculpture stood at over 7ft tall. Next I wanted to build up the final photograph and I took most of the photos in the spare bedroom including the one of me. In total the final photo is made up of 5 separate pictures, Jacob Marley is made up of 2 photos (the second picture being the glow behind him) then there is me, the floor and finally the black background. The final thing to do was add the wording and I wanted to add a quote from the actual scene in the book and the quote I used seemed to fit.

I am currently not sure what to do for next weeks film scene, I have a good one in mind but I am still looking for other options as it will be Christmas week so I want a really good one :D

For week number 5 my Twisted Cinema is a scene from The Nightmare Before Christmas. I was unsure what to do for Christmas week and I had this film in mind but I thought I would ask around and see what other people would suggest, Nat wanted me to do a Jack Skellington and then Danny messaged me to say about doing him too so I decided It had to be done.

This Jack Skellington stands at over 7ft tall, I used various different techniques including a basket weave, pinch line twist and then whatever that is I did to his beard (not sure what its called). There are about 40-50 balloons in this sculpture, he even has his sack which contains a bear and a Queen Elsa too. If you want to see him he will be spending the next few days in HMV at Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth.

Finally I would like to wish you all a very happy holiday and I hope you all have a great time whatever it is you do and however you celebrate.

Week 6 - Raiders of the Lost Ark
06---IndianaWeb.jpg[/attachment:dnbgighu]

Hello everyone

For my Twisted Cinema balloon this week I have decided to try and replicate one of my favourite movies, It is a scene from Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I can still remember the first time I saw the opening scene to the Raiders film, it was Christmas day and I was sat in front of the TV as the iconic Paramount mountain merged into a real mountain, then we follow Indiana Jones as he made his way through the Amazonian jungle and into a hidden temple where he has to negotiate a series of booby traps. Eventually Indiana Jones comes across the golden Chachapoyan Fertility Idol and the scene where Indy has to switch the Idol for a bag of sand.

I have always wanted to be Indiana Jones and finally I get my chance, Here I am as Indiana Jones and I am just about to switch out the golden idol for the bag of sand, Will I manage it or will I get chased through the temple by a giant balloon boulder?

The Golden Idol is made from 160s, 260s and a 5″ round balloon, the bag of sand is another 5″ round balloon with a couple of 160s at the top. I made a full base for the Idol to stand on but you can't really see that because of the shadows, it was made from a 640 and 3 x 260s.

I do hope you have all had a wonderful festive season and I would like to wish everyone a very happy and prosperous New Year and I look forward to sharing many more balloons in 2015.

Twisted Cinema 7 - The Graduate
07-TheGraduateW.jpg[/attachment:21wf3cc6]
Its already week 7 of my Twisted Cinema series of balloons and I am here in Bishops Stortford ready for the care and share day tomorrow, I decided I should make use of my hotel room tonight and I didn't want to be up all night making balloons so I came up with this idea for a fairly easy(ish) movie themed photograph.

I have never seen the Graduate but I know this scene very well, I decided I would play the part of Ben Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) and Mrs Robinson's leg is made from balloons (be thankful I didn't make a balloon Dustin Hoffman leaving me to supply the leg huh).

Anyway, I hope you are enjoying my series of movie themed balloons. Until next week :D

Hello Everyone

This week my Twisted Cinema balloon is based upon the Disney classic film Sword in the Stone. I have always loved the legend of King Arthur and I have had the idea of doing something King Arthur related for a while.
08---SwordintheStoneSMALL.jpg[/attachment:3423jp2q]
I started by making the sword and to do this I used silver and gold balloons, the next stage was to build the base which was fairly easy, I used a stand to build the balloons around.

Next step was to take the photograph and I am lucky to live just down the road from the 1000 year old Portchester Castle, the perfect setting for King Arthur's famous sword. On the day I took the photo it was blowing a gale and by the time I got everything set up for the photograph I noticed the sculpture had been damaged a little but hopefully its not too noticeable. This location in the castle was fairly sheltered from the wind and I think it was a lovely spot for my sculpture.

I originally wanted to be in the photograph reaching out to pull the sword from the stone but once I looked at the photographs it just didn't look right so I decided to keep the sword and stone on their own. The last thing to do was to take the photograph and then add in a few special effects with the magical beam of light and various sparkles.

I hope you all have a lovely week
