Hi Graham, Thanks for asking me for this intervieuw week.
I hope I'm able to put my answers in nice enlish words, so you understand what I want to say   .

1, What road led you into balloon modelling?
I had a party for my 4 years old niece, she had a matabolism disease, and we knew she would't get old with that. So there is a company in Netherland that organises a special day for kids like her. They invided a clown, who made some balloon models for us. I said to him that I thought it was easy to do, so he gave me a balloon and I made my first dog.

2, When did you get started with balloons?
After that party I searched on internet and found someone who gave workshops. I went to her and she learnt me the basic things to know. The day after that I was already trying to recreate the balloon pictures that I found on internet. So that was almost 5 years ago now, and I'm still doing it a lot!

3, What's your best twisting experience?
Hmmm, that's a hard one. I'll have to think about that.
My first reaction is that I don't have a special one.

4, What is the worst thing that has ever happened to you during a ballooning/entertaining session?
I did a party last saterday, and a dad came to me with his crying son. He was furius! Why doesn't my boy get a balloon???
Well,...he will get one, but there are more children here. It's almost his turn.
So I made 2 more balloons, just gave the last one away and wanted to ask the boy what he wanted. But his dad was there again, even more furius than before. I gave him some answers on what he said, but then I desided I better ignore him and payed my attention to the boy.
It was hard to be nice to the boy. Not that I didn't want to be nice to him, but I was furius myself now! I mean, what was the man thinking? I was already twisting non stop for 2 hours!
I asked the boy what he wanted, and of course his dad gave the anwer...I just kept ignoring him and talked to the boy. I made him a big horse and could even make some jokes with him.

After the gig, I talked to the one who hired me and explained what happend. Luckely she know who it was immediatly and said, o'that's the one who everybody hates her in this company, wich made me feel a bit better.

I always hate when thing like that happen, it's ALWAYS the parent! They say that children have no patience, but the parents are worse.

5, What do you most enjoy about twisting & why?
I just love to see the faces of the children when I'm twisting. To see the surprice on their faces when I blow my first baloon,....wow, what a big balloon!! And then when I'm ready, ....WOW...mom look what I've got!!

6, What's your favourite age to entertain?
I mostly make balloons for children, but yesterday I made balloons for a lady's group. I think they were between 65 and 85, it was so much fun! I normaly just make balloons, of course I make some jokes now and then, but I don't have a show or something like that. So when they asked me to entertain those ladies I didn't knew how to do it. But it went great, we had a lot of fun together.
So I think I like to entertain the ones who likes to be entertaind by me, no matter what age.

Hi Petra, this is not so much a question but more of an thought on one of your answers! It's funny how we all (as entertainers) come across the furious mam, dad or granny. Do you get them often and is that how you tend to go about it and ignore them? This, for the record, is what I would try to do also.

Hi Petra, who would you most like to make a model for and why? what would you make them ?

who would you most like to make a model for and why? what would you make them ?
* Well, I like to make balloons,....so as long I am makining them it doesn't really matter who will get it. My most favorite balloon is my balloon butterfly. It was the first ballon that I designed myself, easy enough to make at party's. Most of my own work was to big, this is a quick 3/4 balloon design.
O, I almost forgot to say my most important rule: to make shure I'm not going to be just a balloon machine, I always try to make as much different design as possible. Sometimes when children have seen something they want that also, I will try to talk them into something else,.....what....don't you know that I can make an even nicer horse (or something)???
And I try to make a new design every party, so this is how I keep it interesting for myself and I can add new designs to my little cheating book all the time!

*Luckely I don't meat people like that often. I think it was the 5th time in 5 years now.
I had a lady one time she was real mad also, she asked me how it was possible that she was standing there with her grandson for 45 minutes, and still had no balloon. So I said I thought it was strange also, becourse I was there for only 30 minutes, and haven't seen her the first 15 minutes for shure. Becourse that time there were only 3 little girls...... :o
She took her grandson and went away. Other people said she had just arrived!

But in the case of the boy last time, I just talked to him....asked him questions. I mean, I can only talk to 1 person at the time   Like I said before I found it real hard to to, but it looked the best I could do. And this time it worked, he was gone before his son received his balloon and left me alone after that.

Sometimes people calm down when I say that I try my best, but if kids are standing around me, I can't see who's next all the time! I think everytime there could be a different solution. I only try not to take it to personal, becourse then I can't work, my hands are shaking then! That's why I ignored the dad this time, I feld that he wasn't reaseneble and he didn't want to be that!
