Have you seen the Promo Power facebook status:::

To all our valued staff!

Firstly we would like to thank you for your hard work and support over the past few years.
After great consideration PromoPower has decided to take a sabbatical (The term sabbatical actually is derived from the biblical Sabbath which serves to build periods of rest and rejuvenation into a lifetime lol.)
Therefore PromoPower ceased trading on the 31st May 2012 until further notice.
Should any of you have wage claims that you have not yet submitted, please ensure that we receive them no later than Friday 22nd June 2012 as this will be the VERY LAST pay run; any wages/expenses not claimed by this date will be LOST.

We wish you all the success for the future!
Kind regards

Kim & Lindsay

Is this a sign of better days for the rest of us??? or will another take their place thinking 'they' will be the ones to get all the business!!!.... There is enough work for all to be happy with if we all work together for the same goals...xxx

Can't find the fb page, who were they? Can't find any other threads using search about them.
Did they try and undercut the market?

They caused a lot of controversy a year or two back on Face Painting Chat by offering full day jobs at £100 for face painters and £120 for twisters. Unfortunately, they have continued in this vein ever since and I hope their sabbatical is because they were finding it impossible to find enough people new enough or naive enough to work a full day for that.

Or could it be they couldn't find any gigs to fulfil because they were charging too much?

If you are losing out to competitors who are undercutting you, what is it about you that makes you unique and worth paying extra for?

Without meaning any harm or wishing to annoy everyone here, what is wrong with a company offering work at this low rate?

Let the healthy debate begin....

I think the annoyance came because they where the first 'agency' to openly offer these very low rates to face painters and balloon twisting entertainers..

It has also caused annoyance to people I know who run entertainment agencies, due to them now being expected to get people at lower rates to be able to compete in the market place..

If you have not or don't do work for agencies then you wont have noticed that over the past couple of years the fees being offered have in some cases halved...

I know for some they are lucky enough to be in an area where it does not affect them or in a position where they can be picky on the jobs they accept. But for others of us where our full time household income comes from working in this market, we juggle with private and agency work to keep us in business ( knowing that rates vary for the different work we do) - If you are in work and your boss contacted you and said  your wages would half but you are still expected to do the job well - nobody would be happy

Since they started others have set up offering similar rates - so in effect they started competing against each other...

Any good experienced twister knows their worth but agencies like these prey on people. They pay on large company's greed to save a few pounds and they prey on twisters desperation for work / income. I am fortunate enough not to be the main breadwinner in my family and can afford to be somewhat picky about what jobs I will and will not take.

Personally these days I prefer not to work for agents. I find as a general rule (although obviously not always the case) the money is not great, it takes ages after the job to be paid (and I wouldn't accept this off a direct booked client so why should I from them?) and often those booking you for the job have no real understanding of what it is that we do so cannot properly relay our needs to the client.

Then there is also the risk of never getting paid! I have heard of a few agencies going under during this recession and of lots of people that will now never get paid for work they have carried out.

Personally I will continue to either work for myself or those I know and trust at an hourly rate of my choosing and will continue to insist on payment either in advance or on the day.  At least then if I break my own rules and get stung it is only myself to blame.  ;)

.... and there endth the sermon  :D
