Post by: Graham Lee on July 30, 2012, 05:27:14 PM
Just looking throught to see what may be of interest,
I have my favourite flower,
a fairly easy doll/princess,
one balloon gun,
large man on bike, easy'ish to make or
love birds in a cage.

Those are the choices for this month,

Hi Graham,

your flower, or the doll/princess, would be nice.

Hope to see you at the Eurojam this year.

It looks like the flower was most popular, I will make it again over the next couple of days and put pictures up of side view and rear to help.

A few more pictures to see the construction of the flower hopefully a little easier, this one is two 260's.

And this one has a 160 stem which I think proportionally looks better. On the last picture you can add the ends of the 260's into the centre of the flower, it maybe adds a little?

Hi Graham

I have been doing a similar flower for ages, out of just one 260. I don't know where I got the idea from.....probably you showed me  :D  :D  :D

These are a couple of pics. It works really well in gold, as a golden anniversary bouquet. I have done that quite a few times.

I love the first picture, the colours look really nice together, is that colour in the centre ivory ?? I have never used that colour before. I will try and make it in two colours, with the sticky out bits tomorrow.

Hi Kevin, yes it is Ivory makes for a suttle change.
I think your flower is a slightly different design, it looks like a 6 petal with every other petal twisted at a 45 degree angle inside the next.
This picture is a few years old and the design is on my DVD two, "Flowers" so from a few years ago now. Did you notice the crafty little plug there that I got in ;)

Gave this one a go this morning.  Wanted to get at least one sculpture posted before the instructions were out.   It turned out ok, but I know I'm missing something simple.

Thanks,

  Michael

Goodness there must be something wrong, here I am putting the instructions up in the same month as the model, whatever next.
There are two versions for this flower, I will explain both. The two balloon 260 version and the three balloon, two 260's and one 160.

Three balloon flower,
Inflate for this model the Pink 260 just over half way and make three 6/7 finger fold/loop twists, generally people make these fold twists too big so think small.
Keep the rest of the Pink 260 with a puff of air for the centre of the flower later.

Inflate a White 260 just over halfway and twist into the centre of the three Pink fold twists, make a 3/4 finger bubble, a 1.5 finger pinch twist and one more 3/4 finger bubble and wrap around the centre of the Pink balloon again.

Make another 3/4 finger bubble in the White balloon and twist around the pinch twist. You then need two more 1.5 finger pinch twists for the centre of the flower.
Get rid of the excess but keep this with a puff of air for the second balloon in the centre of the flower, we will attch this later.

Tie the two ends of the Pink and White balloon together and from underneath the three pinch twists insert these two balloons and wrap around the pinch twists and bring them out at the top in the centre. The length of how high these are is up to you, if too high wrap a couple of times around the pinch twists to get rid of the slack.

If making the two balloon version pre stretch the balloon, inflate the lilac 260 and leave 6 fingers un-inflated, twist three 6/7 finger fold twists, then the centre of the flower from the same balloon make a 3/4 finger bubble, a 1.5 finger pinch twist, another 3/4 finger bubble twisted into the the centre of the three fold twists. Then make the last 3/4 finger bubble, twist into the pinch twist and the make the final two 1.5 pinch twists. If you find the 260 is a little short pre-strect it and then stretch again when inflated. The stem will look like this, hopefully. Instructions on next post.

Post by: Graham Lee on August 30, 2012, 03:50:28 PM
Inflate the green 260 and leave approx 5 fingers un-inflated. Twist a 1 finger bubble and twist this around one of the fold twists of the flower, make another 1 finger bubble and tie the knot around the second 1 finger bubble. If you have some excess on the knot you can wrap this around the fold twist as well as in picture 17a.

Gently push each fold twist up over the 3/4 finger centre bubbles, do this gently the first few times but you do get the feel for this after making a few flowers.
Make three 4/5 finger fold twist underneath the flower head.

The top of the flower should look a little like this, I made it without the stem in the way for a better picture from underneath.
Title: Re: August 2012 model of the month Flower
Post by: Graham Lee on August 30, 2012, 03:59:30 PM
To finish the stem make two 7/8 finger fold twists for the leaves, if you push the lower part of the stem up through one leaf and down through the other these will not then un-twist later.
It is at this point I would push the flower fold twists over the centre bubbles of the flower.

Back to the three balloon version, take the 160 and inflate to 3/4 fingers un-inflated, attach the same way as the 260 stem, a 1 finger bubble twisted around a fold twist of the flower and another one finger bubble. Tie the knot around this twist and then pull the knot around the fold twist as well, you can just see the lip of the knot in picture 26, this helps to keep everything
in place and secure. Make two 5 finger fold twists under the flower.

Post by: Graham Lee on August 30, 2012, 04:12:02 PM
And then the last 5 finger fold twist. With the remainder of the 160 make two 7/8 finger fold twists for the leaves on the stem and pull the lower part
of the stem up through one leaf and down through the other to lock into place.

Hope you can make it from the instructions, a few extra pictures that may help a little as I think I went a little out of sequence.
I always look forward to seeing a few more have a go at the model of the month once the instructions are up.

I dont think I put a completed version of the two balloon flower up. I always put a kink in the top and bottom of the stem to give movement.
