Title: March, Model Of The Month (Sheep)
Post by: Graham Lee on March 25, 2008, 05:37:43 PM
Will be speaking to someone very soon to get a model put up that we can all try to make.
I think it would be nice for it to be up for a while so that we can attempt to make it & post our efforts.
Then after a few days the instructions go up. It can be very surprising when you try to make something
without the instructions that halfway through it looke like something ecompletely different & then off you go at a tangent.
Your thoughts on this are welcome, as they are on any other of the topic on the forum.
I'd very much like this to be a user's forum, so all your suggestions are welcome as they may spark someone else into coming up with an idea.

I thought we might start with a sculpture from one of David Grist's DVd;s.
So will make up the sheep & post asap, just back from the juggling convention in Doncaster.
Hope a few will attempt to make the model first with no instructions & then I'll put the instructioons up in a weeks time.

Right, just off to make up the sheep.
Hope to post it tonight.
Here is a picture of David & I enjoying ourselves at TMJ.
Not sure what year, but by the amount of refreshment you can see we usually had a good time.
Great memories that will last forever.

Craig
Did you just make that from the pictures I posted?
It looks really good in pink, amazing how things can look totally different with a change of colour.
Proffesor that is a great effort as well.
I was thinking about waiting till the middle of the month to post instructions,
but if everyone has attempted it by then I will post them sooner

Fairby,
Could I twist   your arm to post your efforts as it would also encourage others to post as well that are maybe having difficulties making the sheep.
Perhaps I could give some suggestions before the Instructions go up.
The idea of the forum is to help each other & improve the art of balloon modelling.

My version. The proportions are a bit off but that is normal for a first try (for me)
It's not like it should be next try would be better.

Fairby, post your version! We do not laugh about it, you can only learn by trying it and people pointing out where you went wrong is a big help!

From what I see your not far off it just need head and legs plus a pinch twist a the base of neck :geek:

I think Dave is right. This is very good, you just need to add a pichtwist at the base of the neck.
The feet are basic, that should not be a problem. I started with the head because I suspect that that would be the biggest challenge and it was.

Fairby,

How are things coming along with the sheep, would you like some pointers?

Yes please, the body is ok (The sheep not mine) legs ok but head and assembly is not good. 8-)

Can you post a picture, then everyone could help out & give you some pointers on any trouble you are having with it.
The body that you posted only needed the pinchtwist at the body/neck point.
Was there a pinchtwist at the rear of body to attach back legs?

Graham Lee

Yep there was a pinch twist on version 2 and 3 but my bubbles were rubbish and out of proportion. Legs are ok. Tried making a head like a bunch of banannas and shoving neck through then had a big bang and I said a few naughty words. not got to eyes yet. I had lamb for sunday lunch so feeling a bit better. This sheep wont beat me.
Will have a go tomorrow.   8-)

Apologies I haven't had a go at this yet - haven't been around for a few days - if you can wait a week or so Graeme before posting instructions and I will give it a go later this week.

Here come the Instructions for the sheep.
The mouth is two pinchtwists, 6 finger bubble, another pinchtwist, a 7 finger bubble (side of face) twisted around mouth.
Another 7 finger bubble for the other side of face twisted into pinch twist at top of head.
then two 6 finger bubbles for the back of the head.
I never knew trying to write instructions would be so difficult. Pictures attached, hopefully they will help.

The eyes are two 2 finger bubbles tied together.
A black 4 finger bubble split in half for horns onto single pinchtwist.
Then four 1 finger bubbles tied together & twisted in half which go around the top pinchtwist as well.

The body is a 4 finger bubble, pinchtwist, 6 finger bubble, another pinchtwist and then three more 6 finger bubbles.
The wool effect is five 2 finger bubbles x four

The feet & legs.
A 1 finger bubble, pinchtwist, a small fold twist then a 4 finger bubble for leg.
Twist the leg around pinchtwist of sheep's body, then 4 finger bubble, pinchtwist, a small fold twist.
Tie the first one figer bubble into the second pichtwist. This will keep the legs together.
Repeat for the second pair of legs.

The knot of the 4 finger bubble of the sheep's body goes around the pinchtwist at the top of the face with the
4 finger bubble being pushed in between the two back 6 finger bubbles of the sheep's head.
Hope the instructions are not too bad to follow :?:
Have added some green balloons as grass for effect.

It dosn't matter which way you start or finish as long as you end up with what you want
That sounds as clear as mud, their's no right way or wrong way, we all do things differently that what makes twisting such fun.

I made it in a much different wayto the 'real' instructions but I came close I think. I will try again following the proper way and see how it goes. Many thanks for the instructions Graham, and the challlenge it was fun.

What is next ?

Hi

I decided to have a little fun with this one.  I used neon green and pink and then took a pic of it under a uv light.  it has been at the plant way too long with Homer simpson. HEHEHEHE  have tried to post the pic but cant seem to get it right.  When i figure out how to post the pics correctly Ill put up my mutant glowing sheep on here.  I have made almost all of my animals out of the neon balloons just for jun.  I guess I must be a little wierd

I have just come back from a week away down in Devon. We stay on a site that is also a working farm and the girls get to see all the animals so I thought trying to do this one again down there would be a good idea, the 1st pic is the sheep grazing in the field, we came home and it was our little ones 3rd birthday and one present was a farm set which prompted a request for another sheep (what have I started) this time I used eyeball balloons for eyes but I am not sure about them and will use a scrap next time I think
