I thought we would carry on model of the month for a while so please join in with your attempt and perhaps have a go at some of the other competitions that are taking place as there are some excellent prizes to win. I will put the instructions up near the end of the month.
Well Graham, I certainly giggles my way through this one. And in the end, I realize I am still a 65 year old wanna bee. LOLOL
Not bad for a first try I thought :)
Good job Rhian, how the heck are you supposed to keep that darn shell tucked in. Mine kept popping out and I had to hurry to take the picture!
The shell has to be rolled from the back of the snail and not the front, this way his head sits nicer. The four sets of bubbles that the shell sits into should be a little smaller perhaps and then it's a nice tight push fit and will not keep popping out. That is why I do two rows to push the shell into as the snail with just one row for me always did not stay in place.
Thank you Graham. Now of course you know I will have to try it again don't you!!!! LOLOL
My quick version. Think I need a smaller neck
A different snake i use

sorry if picture is dark, will need to start using proper camera not the phone camera.
heres my first snail attempt.
OK, Graham, I've spent the last hour and a half trying to get a reasonable face, but I am no further ahead (except I know what DOESN"T work). How about one small hint: what is the first bubble?
I believe I started with the four cheek bubbles or was it two cheek bubbles and then a pinch twist and two more cheek bubbles.
Here is the Snail plus another different one. I also saw a camel when I was making the snail so will post it too.
camel
Excellent Thelma, love the camel.
hello millarart,
not sure my head was correct,or that good. but-
i made four bubbles, tying knot at twist. after forth bubble, followed buy three more bubbles, which rolled over first four ( eyes and antena's passed through between both sets of bubbles). and twisted at front, the rest comes down for the neck, from between first four bubbles.
not sure if this helps you.
alistair ...Aligtwister
After seeing Thelma's snail made with the caterpillar balloons, I prefer the snail with drawn on eye's.
Cool!!!
This is the snail we have been making since 2005 with a caterpillar and 12"LOL. It can be made in under a minute and last about a month holding it's shape.
A BIG thanks to Graham and Alistair for your assistance. I have no reference for anything like this particular model. What I'm doing now still isn't quite right (the fact that I work primarily with 160's has something to do with it, I know), but I am making some progress with your generous help. I hope to post something worth seeing next week.
Peter :P
Here's my snail - I know I made the neck too long, but maybe he's the sort who likes to stick his neck out??
Lisa
LOLOL Lisa, too funny!
had a bit of a slow night last night, so I thought I'd have a go at it. Didn't have the picture so went completely on memory. I think I did pretty good actually
Made from 3 260's - that had previously had other lives as an Elephant, a Fish and a Teddy Bear. This is my first attempt at just creating something. Is not as good as all the others in here but my daughter will recognize as a snail - if it doesn't deflate overnight.

First attempt at uploading pictures so I hope I have done it right.
Vic
Another attempt .

Well Lisa's snail may be sticking it's head out too far, but I think mine is saying "Give it up Millie, and wait for the instructions!!!"
it's closer than the first attempt and looks like a usable design to me. Hopefully Graham will be posting the instructions soon
I think I misunderstood in these model of month threads are you meant to try copy the model in the first post or just model whatever is mentioned? Sorry of I posted my snail incorrectly.
It's meant to be you try to make the model your way and at the end of the month I put the instructions up to how I make it but we are very flexible about it all and it's nice that everyone is putting variations and other ideas up. I think this months model of the month has been the busiest one ever that we have done. I stopped doing them a while back as only one or two people joined in and writing up the instructions and pictures some months took me 4/5 hours so it's great that this months took off so quickly when we have a model that moves so slowly :D
Need to think what we can do for next months challenge or has someone got a model they would like to share?
Here is snail from a while ago.
Here my entry for the month. I used 160's as they are my balloon of choice and modified the snail accordingly for the smaller balloon. Congrats to everyone on their wide display of creative twisting! :D
Tring to upload photo from iPad but having no luck grrrr!

I love tapatalk, it's great. I think I need to get an ipad. I like the look of your shell Dave, looks 3D'ish with what looks like a double bubble in the centre. I was playing about with the Snail Shirley showed at the Leeds day as that also had a nice look to it as well. Here come the instructions to how I made it, it does not matter how you make the snail as there are a few ways
to get from A to B and all are correct but the construction of how I made it may help some.
The blush was inflated with a 3 fingers un-inflated and two pinch twists made, this is where I attached the wobbly antenna's although some have fitted onto the top of head which makes for a slightly different look.
Twist four 2 finger bubbles for the mouth section and twist these back into the first two pinch twists.
You then need a 1 finger bubble, 3 finger bubble and one more 1 finger bubble which will be the top of the head.
The last twist goes between the second and third twist of the mouth/lower head and you have to push the air along the balloon so that you have what looks like an un-inflated piece of balloon to twist under the lower mouth and back into the first two pinch twists.
Hopefully the pictures will help with this discription, I did say hopefully! :)
Then make a 3 finger bubble for the eyes and split into two and push into place.
Get an Orange balloon and inflate a 3 finger bubble, I have a knot at both ends. I like this better than a knot at one end and no knot at the other.
You can use the end of two balloons and have no knots at all as well, so many possibilities.
Anyway split into two and put a knot in the middle to hold the two bubbles in place and attach around the pinch twists.
I then made an 8 finger bubble for the neck and then two 7 finger bubbles for the body.
I think my model looks to have a slightly long neck so you may want to do a 6 finger neck and the body with two
8 finger bubbles or you could do a 6 finger neck, two pinch twists and then two 7 finger body bubbles.
The shell you will need to leave 3 fingers uninflated and make a pinch twist at the end of the balloon, a 7 finger bubble followed by two 2 finger pinch twists.
(leave these out if you put the pinch twists into the blush balloon as described about, you can also inflate the shell balloon to leave a 1 finger bubble if
you do not put these pinch twists in the shell balloon)
Attach the first pinch twist to the back of the snails body and the 2 pinch twists around the front bubble of the snail.
You then need another 7 finger bubble which is twisted into the back of the snail and around the single pinch twist.
Then curl up the remainder of the balloon tightly and push this down between the 4 body bubbles of the snail.
So that it pushes the bottom two bubbles out slightly which will make for a good fit.
Hope this has helped some out and if no one has made the snail could you try while reading the instructions and see if it all goes to plan.
thanks Graham, I was fairly close. This may just be a model that I use on a regular basis.
I have just been looking through my hundreds if not thousands of pictures of balloons looking for a new model of the month and found this snail form a while ago which has a different face.
Thanks for posting those instructions Graham
I also will be adding this snail to my repertoire :)
Lisa
Here is my effort. Done from memory of pic whilst listening to my daughter practice her Cello this morning. Now I'm attempting to upload it I see instructions have been put up. I think I was close.

Well thank you, appreciated. Here is hoping this month model of the month Giraffe will be as popular. model-the-month-may-2012-giraffe-t5276.html (http://balloonchat.co.uk/model-the-month-may-2012-giraffe-t5276.html)
Millie, I just scrolled back to see your first effort which was a good effort but this one you just posted goes way beyond that :D :D
Thank you Graham for your lovely snail design !
Here's my first attempt at this snail. Made it quickly and will need some work, but I love the design. Next time I get asked for a snail (which would be the first time incidently), this is the one I'm going to make. Thanks Graham!
Michael

That is a nice shell.
Thank's you
Hi Graham. That snail is excellent. Is it Available as a tutorial?
I think I put it on the hats DVD, it is a slightly different version but from the DVD and the picture I'm sure you would be able to work it out.
Another snail
They have great character and personality and also remind me of those carts people stand on which I'm not sure of the name.
Thelma's snails inspired me to have another go today at a snail,
I didn't like the look of the underside of the shell turning upwards in the above post so did a version two which I like a little more.
Definitely the second one is much better. Like it a lot
This is the one I have been making for a few months now,
I think the new one is better. It seems friendlier!! :D
