Title: October Model of the Month (Bat)
Post by: Graham Lee on September 28, 2019, 08:11:20 AM
As its coming up for Halloween the bat possibly is a good one to do.
We came up with this one while attending the London Jam the
other week and the Halloween theme was dominant.

Below is what will be in the complimentary packs of balloons this month.
Would be nice to see a few posted if you do have a go at making the Bat.

Here we go then with the instructions,
Inflate the 260 black leaving 8 fingers un inflated.

Leave a long piece of balloon at the knot end,
you can attach the eyes to this later if you like when pulling the
excess to the other side of the head to secure in place to the body.

Make a 4 finger bubble and a 1 finger pinch twist.
Then another 4 finger bubble and another 1 finger pinch twist.
Attach the knot of the balloon to the second pinch twist.

You need two more 4 finger bubbles back and forth for the head.

To use the same balloon for the body make a very soft 1.5 finger
bubble followed by a 1 finger pinch twist.

Make a 5 finger bubble and a 1 finger pinch twist.

Leave the 260 here for the moment and start on the 160 black
for one of the wings. Inflate and leave a 4 finger un inflated.

Make an 8 binger bubble followed by a 1 finger pinch twist,
then  a 4 finger bubble and another 1 finger pinch twist.

Make another 4 finger bubble and twist back into the first pinch twist.

You then need a 4 finger and 6 finger bubble back to the second pinch twist.

Then the last 8 finger bubble, secure and get rid of excess 160.

Do the same again for the second wing and tie them together.

Lay the wings over the 5 finger bubble on the 260 balloon and make another
5 finger bubble over the wings and secure into the pinch twist by the neck.

You then need another 5 finger bubble twisted into the lower body pinch twist.

Make the last 5 finger bubble so you have a four bubble body for the Bat and
secure into the neck pinch twist and discard the excess of the 260 balloon.

You now need to position the head onto the centre of the body.
Push the very soft 1.5 finger bubble between two of the lower 4 finger head bubbles,
you might need to gently pull these over the neck pinch twist so the head sits snugly.

The ears, inflate the 160 black about half way,
you can make two sets of ears from the one balloon.

Attach the 160 to the head pinch twist and make two
4 finger bubbles followed by a 1 finger pinch twist.

Make two more 4 finger bubbles for the other ear and attach
to the other pinch twist on the other side of the head.

I just push the pinch twist into the top two 4 finger head bubbles.

The pinch twist for the ears you could attach the eyes to if you wanted
them secure. I just push these also into the four bubble head section
explained below.

Inflate a red 160 to a small 2 finger bubble, split into two for the eyes.
If you leave the excess long on the 160 you could attach around
either head pinch twist. I think this elongates the eyes and
I prefer to just push these into the head for a snug fit.

Add artwork and some blood if you would like.

For the blood you need to paint the design with a white edding marker first.
I added a couple of spots to look like dripping blood from the teeth

To save time you can have just one 160 as the wings if twisted into
a figure of eight. And then add a twist slightly above centre if you
would like a varied look and twisting for a line work situation.

I prefer the two balloon wing look but I know sometimes people need to speed twist.

Hope the design is of some use and if you do make it then please post so others can see

Thanks.

Thanks for Posting, I changed the ears from last week and also made
the wings in a more curved upright huggable look.
Will post some pictures soon of the new look.

I just updated the look of the Bat from what I posted last week.
The wings were two 8 finger bubbles but I changed to an 8 finger and a 6 finger
so they come up towards the head a little. I also made the ears look larger,
I added two 2.5 finger bubbles at the first and third twist for the ears.
Either side of the pinch twist that sits in the middle of the head.
We were in Scotland last week and they had a large 3 foot
bat head on display and the ears were so much bigger
that I decided to change them.

Not sure I like the wonky mouth look, might do straight on the next one.
