Title: September Competition (Racing Car)
Post by: Graham Lee on August 29, 2017, 06:25:58 PM
Next month the challenge is to make the racing car. It's from just two balloons.
The complimentary balloon packs will be sent out with all orders and if you post your
model you will go into the draw to win a balloon modelling DVD.

If you do not buy from us then no worries please just have a go at the design for fun.
I hope it will be useful to a few.

I will put the step by step instructions up shortly when I get a few minutes.

Not too many balloons in the complimentary packs this month, just a spare of each.
Good luck with making the car, it's always difficult for some reason to photograph red balloons.
Not sure why, perhaps someone will know?

So Inflate the red balloon or whatever colour balloon you are making the car with.
Green might look good, then again it might not.

PLEASE NOTE, I have tied some of the twists so that I can take pictures,
your joints will look a lot cleaner.

So inflate the 260 leaving approx. 6/7 fingers un-inflated.

Make two 1 finger bubbles and then pinch twist these.

You then need a 3 finger bubble followed by a 1.5 finger pinch twist.

The front of the car is a 3 finger bubble,
a 4 finger bubble and another 3 finger bubble twisted back into the pinch twist.

Then make another 1.5 finger pinch twist.
EDIT
The original design only had one pinch twist and when explaining I added another.
Since making the car a few times the second pinch twist is not required.
The wheels fit easier with just the one pinch twist.
The steering wheel column holds the top section of the wheels in place.

The side of the car is a 6 finger bubble and then you need for the rear wind shield
a 1.5 finger bubble a 5 finger bubble and another 1.5 finger bubble.

Then make a 3/4 finger bubble for the back of the car and twist this to the twist
between the 6 finger side bubble and the first 1.5 finger bubble for the wind shield.

You then need another 3/4 finger bubble as the rear of the car has two
bubbles and roll the second bubble through to lock into place.

Then to finish the body another 6 finger bubble for the side and twist into the two pinch twists.
Deflate the rest of the balloon.

Inflate the black 260 and leave 7 fingers un-inflated.

You need to make a very soft 4 finger rounded fold twist.
Push this through the body of the cat and twist into the rear/side section.

Then to make the feel of the engine make a 2 finger bubble followed by a 1.5 finger pinch twist.

You then need a 3 finger pinch twist and a 2 finger bubble.
Then make the other very soft and roundish 4 finger fold twist for the other rear wheel.
Twist this around the opposite rear/side section.

Use the rest of the black balloon to make two very soft 4 finger bubbles.
Make quite a few twists of the balloon between the bubbles and tie softly so
there is plenty of slack when you twist these into two very soft fold twists.

The front wheels need to look more roundish that two pinch twists.

Push the front wheels down into the front of the steering column and then take
one of the pinch twists and slip this over the top of the wheels to hold in place.

With the last piece of the 260 black, or use a new 260 if you have run out.
Perhaps a grey would look steering wheel like?

Make a 2 finger tulip/apple twist.
Attach this to the two 1 finger pinch twists.

In picture 23 the steering column sits upright, to make it more stream line and angled
use the excess of the red 260 from the knot you ties and pull this down between the body
of the car and tightly around the two pinch twists that hold the front wheels in place.

Hopefully your car looks a little like this.

If you do make it then please post as it would be nice to see them all.

I have posted a few variations of the racing car here, car-t9098.html?hilit=racing (http://balloonchat.co.uk/car-t9098.html?hilit=racing)
There are three pages at the moment to view.

And another thread here, easy-racing-car-t9827.html?hilit=racing (http://balloonchat.co.uk/easy-racing-car-t9827.html?hilit=racing)

I also made a more detailed racing car with step by step instructions here.
It was made five years ago now............WOW!  model-the-month-november-2012-formula-racing-car-t6212.html (http://balloonchat.co.uk/model-the-month-november-2012-formula-racing-car-t6212.html)

This might finally be my on the job car, if I can just get past the struggle I have at putting the front wheel on!! Here's my go at it, thanks Graham.

Don't forget that was the first time you made it, perhaps make the front wheels a little softer will help.
Or I can go through it next time we meet up, or as a cheat only have one pinch twist at the front wheel section.

Many thanks for this new design. The yellow car is the quick design I had been using.

Since making the car I have now made it from three 350's.
two red for the body section, one black for the wheels and
then a grey 260 for the engine and steering wheel.

Thank you for the order last week Graham!

Heres my racing car - I see what you mean about the red being difficult to photo!

Thanks to Alex, Ross and Paintbox smiles for entering the competition.

I have just done the random name selector and the winner was Eric  :D
He he, I always thought it would be funny to put an un related name down as
the selector is called a random name selector and Eric was random.
Well I thought it was funny but sometimes not just in the written word.

So the winner was Alex, congrats.
Un-fortunately I did not realise we were so low on prizes to give away so there is
not too much of a choice this month, you can have either option A or option B.

Option A
Twisticology DVD1 from Robbie Furman

Option B
Captain Visuals Book, Air Heads and Heart Breakers
