Meaning, I finally figured out how to edit some videotape footage we had, and managed to upload it to YouTube and our website! Links to both our website link and the YouTube page are below.

It's nothing to do with balloon twisting, but I'm so chuffed to have figured out YouTube, especially since I use the Linux operating system (with all its idiosyncracies), that I just had to tell you guys!

WELL DONE! really .... being able to use Video and You Tube and all the other Vlogs etc is a brilliant tool fro marketing. MORE about this another time for anyone interested.

BUT ... you missed a trick. No doubt SO pleased at doing it at all ... but now you have, make the most of it. Get your website link in! HOW? read on:


1) You know the description to the right on YouTube ... the first bit that shows before you expand says:
>> Bill and Kath Worsfold entertain at a 21st birt...
It's HERE that you MUST put in your website URL (http://www.billkath.co.nz/barn_dances.html). Right there, where it can be seen, in the first few words! Do you ever click through and see what people's sites are all about. I do ... but then I know to look there. MOST don't use this Valuable piece of real Estate. It FREE advertising!!!!!!

Then, sell yourself in that fuller description, tease readers so they go to your site and put the URL in again at the end!

2) You should also have some kind of URL in the video preferably top and tail or as a transparent across the bottom for part. A simple edit and resubmission will take care of that.

I'd also submit it to as many other video sites as you can. They get so much traffic even a tiny % can be massive. This means that the Title should also be engaging ... ie good keywords and compelling so people view it.

YES, YES, YES! John, I'm going to do ALL those things you said. I don't know why I didn't think to do some of that stuff, as I have seen URLs on other videos, etc. I was just struggling with the video editing program - first time I have used it.

I am going to re-edit the video and re-submit! Also, I noticed that one of the dances gets a bit tedious with too many repetitions, so I will cut out one time through that dance.

Yes, and we do the "Gay Gordons" as well, but perhaps we won't go there . . .    :lol:

Can you think of a good title that would be compelling and engaging? I did put lots of good keywords in the field they give for that.

OK - I have re-done and re-submitted the video. I think I have done a much better job of editing it this time, and added URLs, etc. If anyone has time to have a look, I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions.

No film came up with the first link, watched the you tube clip through the second link via your website. Are they the same clip?

Darn! Yes, I see what you mean, Graham. That's the URL I get when I go to my YouTube page and click on my video. I wonder if there's a delay before it becomes public. I'll keep checking that, and put a message on here when it goes "live". Just "for your information", in case others are uploading videos, and would like to know the ins and outs.

Yes, it is the same video as on the website - improved over the one I put on last week.

Update: Well, I went to the page that link takes you to, and did a search for Barn Dance Auckland, and it came up with my video, in the "recently added" list. So I assume it will eventually just come up with that link, and go straight to the page.

She MAKES the video, IMHO. It's almost like we paid her for her performance - it would have been worth it, paying her. It sure sells our dances well!
