My accound was hacked into last night, and they made 4 payments to 123-REG.co.uk for arround £700. Anyone else had this done to them? The money left my paypal account at arround 2300Hours last night, luck I wasnt asleep, I got the Emails saying my accound had been debited, so started a resolution going! At the moment the funds are on hold, but i've had a problem with paypal in the past, and they took the money from my account! I lost £300 last time (long story buy I got it back in the end, from someone honnest, not from paypal)

I've just gotta sit and wait for paypal todo their investigation now, and see if they can find who moved my money!

Anyone got any problems like this?

The thing thats annoying, is they dont disclose any information, so I dont have a clue whats happened! I dont know if my account was hacked, or if the payment was taken by mistake, its all a bit strange! And annoying!

Be aware folks that sometimes very convincing looking  "Paypal" emails are sent by scammers informing you that payments have been taken to trick you into clicking on a Bogus link to complain and end up giving the scammers your password etc. These are often addressed to "Dear Paypal user" rather than your name. In any case, never click on a link in these emails but rather log in to your account from internet explorer and check your account that way. Hope this was not what happened to you Jordan.

Thanks for that.
In my case, the money has been taken, i've been on the phone to paypal to try to address this, and its just a waiting game now to see what happens!

Jordan, what huge bummer!!  Ouch!!! I would be devastated if that had happened to me.  Money is to hard to come by to have it scammed away from you.

I use PayPal all the time and to date (last 4 years) have only had one minor problem which wasn't PayPal's fault but that of a customer and was resolved to everyone's satisfaction within 2 days.  I've heard horror stories from others about PayPal, but there have actually been much fewer of these stories circulating than when people talk about their credit card numbers being stolen.

Because I knew I would be using PayPal quite a bit, here is what I did when I set up my PayPal account to try and protect myself from things like this:
1) The very first thing I did was set up a checking account.  One that would not pay for anything over the amount not already in that account.
2) Then I created a yahoo e-mailing account.
3) Then I set up my PayPal account using that checking account and my yahoo address.

Now when funds are added to my PayPal account, I transfer it to my checking account asap.  Once it's in my checking account I withdraw it.

Will this protect me from someone hacking my account?  Not completely, but at least there is a limit to the damage that can be done.  The only funds that can be hi-jacked are the funds I keep in PayPal itself (less than $10) and the funds I keep in the checking account (less than $5).  I'm sure I would have to fight to keep from paying any overdraft charges, but still, those would be much less than the amount of money you've just lost.

And Twistina is soooo right!  Never click on the links!! I don't even click on the links when I know it's from PayPal. I go straight to my account itself to check out anything that I need to know.

I hope you get this resolved in your favor quickly!
