I made a big heart for a friend who is having a do tonight.  She asked for a big heart to go in the backdrop of a photographers set up for her friends to have their photos taken.  Well---  I am not a decorator and have only touched the surface.  I don't do big things.  So I have tossed and turned over this.  I decided on a way to make it the other night but I was working Friday and had two events today and two tomorrow.  So I had a go at my idea last night after my parties.  I was not 100% happy.  In fact I was not 50% happy.  It does not look much but I was doing it till 4.30am and I decided enough was enough and anything that was not right would just have to stay that way.  I didn't have time to start again.  So this is what I did.  My very first attempt at something bigger and plenty of room for improvement.   I know what to do different next time.  I think I will have another go and see how it looks now I have done it once.   I have some other photos in my camera but I am too cream crackered to sort them out yet.

oooh I am chuffed you like it.  I was going to make it bigger but it got to 4.30am and I thought "Bugger it" and went do bed.  But the reason it took that time was really working out the logistics.  Staring at it, having a cuppa, walking round it every time I added a bit, having a cuppa, tutting, swearing, having a cuppa.  The one thing I did like about this one is it was cupped like a half heart.

Now I have a nice idea for another one..  Get the kettle on!!!!!

I made this hart last night (not as big as Thelma's).
For the heart I used Nico Fric's weaving idea, and the letters are from Marvin Hardy.
It was for a couple that was celebrating that they are married 40 years now.

Thelma... you are way to critical on yourself.  It is amazing, and I bet everyone LOVED it! What better advertising, than when, each time they look at their photo, they are not only going to remember the party, but YOU ... for designing the heart.

I just made this heart after jamming with myself.
So please don't mind the stupid color combinations :roll:.

I was trying to see if it was possible to make a heart using squares and triangles (instead of just squares) so the heart would be more pointy.
I used 3 balloons to make one block all the time, with the other one I used 4.
It did worked...but not completely how I imagined it. At first I tried making it with the sharp side on the inside. But then I couldn't attach the bottom point  (the lowest 3 blocks):o. so I had to think agin, and made it with the sharp side on the outside.
The point between the 2 lobes was the next challenge, but after some puzzeling I've done it.

Becourse it's hard to see how it looks like when it's not filled with balloons, I took my cheap waterballoons (after all it was just to try) and filled it. Then I noticed, I made it wrong! I've made 3 blocks on the right before the start of the lobe, and just 2 on the other side!  :oops:

But after all....I do like it, it looks nice and I'm sure it's easier to make next time.

At a guess the above heart took about 4 hours, but it was fun coming up with all the different prototypes before settling on the finished article.
It ended up being a competition piece for The Millennium Jam which took slightly longer to make as we we're looking for it to be spot on for the competition.
It also appeared in the Betallic magazine in America in there Valentine section, here's a copy of the magazine with the heart in the centre;

Hi Graham, that is fantastic. When you have time, could you please explain how you made the roses. They are the perfect finishing touch.
