I started off trying to make a variation on a snake and then other things came along during the process.
On the last picture there were two larger red eyes slightly further back that popped so I moved the nostril section to make the eyes.
I think I'd better go make it again and post.

Did this snake today and I see it has similarities with yours Graham.  The eyes are a heart and the head is a 160 balloon.  The body is a 360.
