I thought I'd have a play with making Dumbo today.
I started with the normal elephant shape head I make but felt
this was wrong for Dumbo. It needed a more upright look.
The head came about by a mistake, there was a 160 in the centre of
face and I was going to put eyes either side but it did not look right.
A 260 deflated on the head section and I though it was a 160 so
added an extra 160. Then realised that with a 260 in the centre and
160's either side the look was so much better. So another design
coming about from mistakes.
The trunk section also need check like proportions.
I wanted the front legs to sit in the middle of rear legs,
with the four bubble roll through this did not work so good.
I added a 5th front bubble and moved the position of where
the front legs attached.
The ear shape was wrong and the head neck did not gel nicely together.
This was the picture I was taking inspiration from.
The weave came about from trying to make the ruffles.
It still needs a more ruffled look but I like the weave.
I was happy with the posture of Dumbo, this was what I was looking for.
Are the ears too big?
Can Dumbo's ears ever be too big?
Added a little artwork.
I think the ears look too symmetrical so tried a different idea.
Was looking to make the ruffles around the neck more prominent as well.
A couple of variations.
Using rounds for the ears.
I up sized Dumbo for a Jumbo Dumbo, he he
Made from 350's and 15" hearts for the ears which came about from a suggestion
from Danielle when we were discussing getting the right shape for the ears.
I like the ruffled look as well, more prominent.
I added extra 160 around eyes to make them stand out more.
Then made eyes themselves a lot larger.
