Title: Steam Traction Engine
Post by: Twistina on July 08, 2008, 12:40:31 PM
I created this Traction Engine while at the Bloxham Vintage Vehicle Rally and Country Fayre. It is a rideable and the idea was to then do extensive walk abouts around the site. It was so windy however that I could only do short distances before retreating to find some shelter and fix the balloons that had blown out of place! Fortunately It only suffered a few popped balloons that were easily replaced.Traction-Engine10.jpg[/attachment:2zohsvt8]Traction-Engine-2.jpg[/attachment:2zohsvt8]

I do not often get a chance to make something large like this, I can usually do these when I am not overwhelmed with Children wanting balloons.(very rare!!!) My Husband Mike (AKA Twistopher) does Punch and Judy and sometimes we will get a booking for both of us at a steam rally/ boat show, country fair type event. These seem to attract mostly adults. He does his shows and does balloon twisting in between and can usually handle the demand. I am there if he can not, and I am creating something that the line can watch while they wait. People come back often to see the sculpture in progress.
The Traction Engine took all of the first day and part of the morning the second day. I then did a few Walk-abouts around the site. These  involve me waving, smiling alot and posing for pictures! I usually do a few sessions of walk about then do some models for the children in between and put the large sculpture on display. People can also put it on for photo taking.
I have done a few of these "Walk about costumes", if you look in the Gallery on my website you will see them. //http://www.twistina.co.uk/gallery.html The Chicken costume is the quickest one to do, I think it only took about an hour or so where as the vehicles take several hours! The car is the first one I did and is the David Grist design.
