Balloon Chit Chat / Re: color selection
March 05, 2010, 01:29:31 AM
YvonneH; I can't believe I committed such a crime!!!!!!!!!
I left out pink  :o  :o   That is the color I run out of first, well that and all the neon colors. I haven't been buying the neon lately cause I don't have the extra room.

Martin; thanks for the links, they really helped.

Another quick question if I may. How many of each color and size do you carry?

Thanks
Dan

Balloon Chit Chat / color selection
March 04, 2010, 06:29:19 AM
I would like some opinions for my color selection. If I could have my way I would carry every color that qualatex and betalatex makes, but my back vetoed that idea! What colors do you find that you cant live without? I go by the ROYGBIV method now but tha lacks in the brown, black, and clear ranges. What works for you guys and gals here. I have got my balloon rig almost complete, home built floor pump, carry bag set up, now to narrow down my stock. I buy my rounds and specials in assortments, but 260's and 160's are a little diffrent. All ideas and advice is welcome.

Thanks

Pam is 100% correct!
Both are great machines. We have and use both and couldn't be more satisfied. Even though they are on the expensive side, they are well worth every penny.

Thanks

Balloon Chit Chat / Re: Injuries!
March 03, 2010, 10:13:12 PM
Sometimes when twisting at a party where I am pretty much constantly twisting for many hours, my fingers will pop but I have trouble moving them the least little bit. kind of like they pop out of joint. This happens to my thumbs the most, but every now and then it will happen to my first and second fingers. To get them back right I have to slowly move them up and down and they will pop again and start working right again. Have any of you had anything like this happen? It kind of worries me when it happens, but I'm not sure if I should talk to a doctor! I don't want to have to cut back on twisting.

Blessings to all

I've had a few injuries from twisting, but nothing serious, mainly just aches and cramps. I actually do some warm up stretches before I start twisting. I have no idea whether they work or not, but I do notice the cramps are not as bad.

My worst balloon injury came from a decorating job, but it wasn't job related, it was a bet gone wrong. We
were doing a rather large job that required close to 5 thousand balloons.( column with 36" stuffed exploding toppers, and a balloon tunnel.) To make a long story short, the helpers we had bet me that I would not blow a 24" qualatex until it popped. All of the helpers put in some money, so I had 200.00 dollars coming to me. WHEN THE BALLOON FINALLY POPPED I felt a sharp pain on my cheek. Upon checking my right cheek had a fairly deep gash! I still have a scar to this day. I wont be doing that again. Well maybe for a million bucks I would!

Just thought I would share

Balloon Decor / Re: Just curious . . .
March 02, 2010, 05:47:32 AM
I started working for a family member when I was still in school. I would fly up to her house during the summer to work with her. That is how I got into working with balloons. Once I got started doing decor I was hooked. Now I do decor, and twisting. I have a lot to learn on the twisting end, but then again do we ever stop learning.

Billy, I would say that if you enjoy it, and have a chance to turn a profit go for it. No matter if you are twisting or decorating, there is just something great about working with balloons!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Just my 2 cents worth

O.K. old thread I know, but what can I say I'm new here!  :D  I'm not very good at explaining things so please bear with me. The popping issue with unmatched gasses is due to a process known as diffusion. (I could be wrong on the term so please correct me if I am wrong. I don't want to pass on bad info.   ) The air, or nitrogen, filled balloons actually absorb the helium, over inflate, and eventually pop. I have actually mixed the gasses on purpose just to watch, and with spare time on my hands , watched the 5" grow until it popped, (I could have sped up the popping process with a laser. but I didn't have one powerful enough to work.) Helium is a gas with so weird propities.

One of our big hits is the exploding balloon. We use a qualatex 36 incher and fill it with 5 inch rounds (or whatever the situation calls for. Have done hearts, spireld 260's, 9 inchers, pretty much everything that will fit.) We use the filled 36's as colum toppers mainly, but have used air filled ones as a net free drop using multiple filled 36's. To pop the 36 inch balloons we use the conwin balloon exploders. The effect is awesome! ( A lot of you probably already know and use this, but for the ones who don't give it a shot. Just another wow factor to impress your customers with!) By the way we use the conwin insider tool to stuff the 36's, WORKS GREAT. The double bubbles are also a big hit for us. People always ask, how did you get one balloon inside another! Anyhow I have ran my mouth and bored you enough tonight    .

Blessings to all

Thanks for the warm welcome! I will be posting some pics soon, just having some camera issues. Seems as though every time I go to download the pics I have, they get deleted as if by magic. Soon as I get this solved I will be posting pics.

Thanks again for the warm welcome!

Welcome / A quick HELLO!
March 01, 2010, 04:54:00 AM
I just wanted to say hello from the states. I have been twisting for about one year now, and have to say I love it. I started out, and still do,with balloon decorating. I have not learned the complex sculptures yet cause I mostly do line work, and busking style events so the quick 1,2,3,and some4 balloon sculptures . I plan to learn the more complex creations this year to use on my decorating jobs. This is my balloon experience to date, but with the help of this site and others I will continue to advance. IN closing of this post I want to thank all the great twisters here for sharing their experience and stories, YOUR WILLINGNESS  TO SHARE MEANS A LOT TO ME. THANKS!

Thanks again
Dan
