Balloon Chit Chat / Lights inside balloons
December 04, 2010, 11:23:43 AM
Does anyone use little L.E.D lights to put inside their sculptures. I have a few ideas I would like to try but can't find any to buy.

I have done a search of the forum and some of the links to suppliers are too old and others seem quite expensive.

Does anyone know of suppliers I can try?

Firstly I apologise if this has been discussed already, I did do a search but couldnt find any threads on it.  Please post the link if there is one.

I really want to start an e-mail newsletter for my clients.  Does anyone know how to go about starting one?  I have been having a look online and the vast majority of companies offer templates that you can modify with the pricing breaks based on the amount of e-mails you are sending every month.  Personally I dont want to send a newsletter every month, I was thinking more like 5 per year as a maximum.  This will mean that I will be wasting a lot of money.

Does anyone know how to design your own newsletter and keep complete control of it? I am a bit of a control freak.

I would also love to see if anyone does use the template companies and what you think of them?

Any help would be appreciated.

Balloon Chit Chat / New idea for Balloon Workshop
July 16, 2010, 07:20:18 PM
I run balloon workshops throughout the year and normally we have around 20 children on the week long course.  I normally start with the basics and go through and progressivly get to the better sculptures.  I even managed to get them doing some basic weaving once.

Anyway, the workshop coming up we may only have 5 children and I thought it may be a good opportunity to try something different.  I was thinking of spending the week working on a large balloon scene, i.e tropical scene or under water scene.  I have never done anything like this so I was just looking for any advice at all.

I am thinking that we must have to use a base to start to add the balloons to i.e some sort of wire frame or a solid piece of wood.  I have no idea of how to start building a medium size scene so if their is anybody with experience I would love to hear any advice at all.

Thank you in advance

With the ever increasing popularity of the Meerkat adverts I wondered if anybody has a meerkat design they would like to show off.  I've even noticed they are selling the plush toys in shops now.

I will be attempting my first next week aswell and will post when im done.

Picture Gallery / Toy Story 3
April 24, 2010, 06:32:55 PM
Just thought I would get this topic started as the new Toy Story 3 film will be out soon and im sure we will all get asked for Toy Story Balloons.  I did a quick search of the forum and found just one pic of a Buzz Lightyear and one pic of an extremely good alien (the aliens with three eyes).

I wondered if anyone else has any Toy Story Designs and is anybody has attempted Woody.  I think I am going to try and attempt Woody next week but thought I would get the topic started.

Picture Gallery / Feel the force
April 14, 2010, 12:29:53 PM
I have a birthday party on Friday with a Star Wars theme.  I was racking my brain trying to think of which character the children would relate to best and that would be the best for me to attempt and I decided on Yoda.

As usual I searched Balloon Chat and found one other Yoda design which I used as a start and I have now come up with this sculpture.  This forum is brilliant!

It stands roughly 40-50cm tall.  Can any of you think of any improvements/alterations that could be made to make it that bit better.  I will need to make another anyway for Friday so I can easily try any changes.

Balloon Chit Chat / Twisters how do you work?
January 04, 2010, 09:54:05 PM
I have been trying to find an answer to a problem I keep bumping into.  Most of the time I do walkaround twisting and when I first started I was using your standard busking bag but I found that I outgrew it really quickly so I combined it with an apron but this was uncomfortable to wear and again I found myself outgrowing it.

I am currently using a bag which is on wheels but I am starting to feel that I am now outgrowing this bag.  I was wondering what solutions anyone else has come up with to this problem.  I imagine that the majority of you have busking bags or aprons or both.

I will be posting pics of the bag I use at the mo but thought I would get a head start on the post.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Balloon Chit Chat / Window Displays
August 19, 2009, 08:31:21 AM
I was asked yesterday to design a window display for a retail store and the only thing I am a bit stuck on is how to get my figures to stand up and to look like they are standing on there own.  There will be a couple of figures based on the Ken Stillman superhero figures but I do not know how to get them to stand.

I am thinking of using geo's as a base for some of the items but I woould like some figures to appear as free standing.

I was thinking of some sort or small triangluar wire base which I can slid a couple of pinch twists onto.

Does anyone have any experience with this and can point me in the right direction?

Welcome / Hello
August 10, 2009, 05:45:04 AM
Just joined the forum and thought I would say hello.  I am a full time childrens entertainer but I have only been twisting for about two years.  I came to the Don Cauldwell lecture in June which really changed my outlook on balloon modelling and what I thought was possible with balloons.

As soon as I got home from Don's lecture I decided to scrap all of the models I was making and start a fresh with really impressive pieces of art.  Becasue of this I now only make about twenty different models but they are really impressive to potential clients.

I will try to post some of my models on here for help and advise on how to make them better.

By all means feel free to visit my website and have a browse [url]www.wayne-murphy.co.uk[url].

You will see some of my old models on there at the moment which I do not make any longer.
