Balloon Chit Chat / Does handcream affect balloons?
March 18, 2012, 07:06:30 PM
Handles, steering wheels, gear knobs etc containing certain types of rubber and plastic become sticky over time due to degradation caused by petroleum based handcreams, Vaseline for example, and are impossible to rectify.

Balloons do have a fairly limited lifespan but I was wondering if handcreams may create any issues.

I started out making binoculars and ended up with this.

Picture Gallery / Dumbo
February 29, 2012, 02:30:10 PM
I've tried making Dumbo from a photo.
I've got him in a sitting position, but it can also be stood up.
His hat proved to be quite a challenge.
I think his trunk is a little too long

Picture Gallery / Pink Panther
February 28, 2012, 08:34:49 PM
I've tried a couple of Pink Panther's I've seen on the YouTube but wasn't satisfied with the head, so I've had a go at designing it for myself.

What do you think, how could it be improved? Constructive comments most welcome.

Edit: I just realised I haven't put a tail on him..lol

Picture Gallery / Decent Balloons At Last

Here's a couple of my models made with my new delivery of Qualatex balloons..Thanks Graham.

Pluto type dog, made following instructions on YouTube.
I quite like the head, (Still can't get the eyebrows right  ), by comparison, the body seems little too basic.

Just messing around and ended up with a monkey of sorts.

I just received my Qualatex balloons from Graham.
Very impressive delivery time, ordered Thursday at 3pm, arrived Friday morning, sadly I wasn't home to sign for them so have only just picked them up from the Post Office.

First thing I noticed was how glossy/shiny they are.
They also feel somewhat different to how I remember them 20 years ago.
I'm sure they are thicker than they were.
They are also easier to inflate by mouth than they used to be, or maybe that's just me.

They seem to me to be a completely different balloon to those I used to play with, I'm wondering if they really have changed or is it that I simply don't remember them that well.

Balloon Chit Chat / Qualatex/Sempertex?
February 22, 2012, 07:37:04 PM
I've finally found the links at the top of the forum to purchasing balloons, turned off my ad blocker

Two questions which I'm sure have been asked many times but using the search facility has failed to bring up the relevant threads.

What is the difference between Sempertex and Qualatex other than price?

What would be a reasonable initial selection of balloons to purchase?

I'm going to be making a selection of basic animals/flowers to give away and also wish to attempt more complicated models.

I realise that having all the colours and shapes would be ideal and I'm also sure using mixed bags would soon leave me short of certain colours.

Welcome / Hi Everyone
February 19, 2012, 11:28:52 PM
Hi Everyone,

I've been twisting for as long as I can remember, although only ever the basics which I learnt from my father,  Len Blease, who sadly passed away some years ago.
I didn't follow in my father's footsteps and currently sell baby and children's wear. I see balloon modelling as a relatively inexpensive and fun way of promoting my business and bringing smiles to the faces of my younger clientele.
I'm an Essex boy at heart but now live in London
I look forward to chatting with you all on the forum. :D

Thanks
Rob
