Picture Gallery / Godzilla has been created!
May 31, 2014, 03:31:01 PM
Well, I got the project about 4 months ago and started planning.  Everything was done in photoshop so I could know how big each bubble was going to be.  On design day, we made things a little bigger.  I was lucky enough to have balloon artist friends that were more than willing to help with the project.  Having guys like Brian Getz, Mark Byrne, Billy Damon, JJ Szabo, and everyone there really made things move along.  Started at 11 am with about 12 people and finished at 9 pm.  I estimated about 1500 balloons and we finished north of 2200 balloons.  Here are some pics of the project!  Hoping to post more later as it's being opened today and Haruo Nakajima, who played the original Godzilla will be there along with the cast of Once Upon a Time and others!

It was a project that I was both looking forward to and dreading, but I love how it turned out!

For anyone interested, here's a video with the planning that goes into this one and others.  (It also shows some Easter Eggs we put into some past ones.)

Balloon Chit Chat / Helium Balloon Lights
January 19, 2014, 04:03:27 AM
So we have a decor gig where they want helium balloon centerpieces with the balloons lit up.
What would you guys use?  We use finger lights normally, but the weight of those wouldn't work with helium.  I like the product ilooms which are made by qualatex, but to be honest, there are a lot of duds in each pack.

Anyone have something they use?

Thanks!

Balloon Chit Chat / Union Jack Balloon?
December 02, 2013, 05:24:57 PM
So I have been asked to do a party with a "British Invasion" theme here in the states and they want some British Themed/ Union Jack designs.  Anyone have any ideas?

Also, I looked for Union Jack Mylar balloons.  I thought they would be easy to find.  Anyone know of anywhere here in the states that carries them?

Thanks!

Balloon Chit Chat / Best Compressor?
November 04, 2013, 04:47:52 PM
So I just got a Conwin Dual Split Second Sizer and I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for the compressor.  Anyone have one they like for this or the Duplicator 2?

I would like it to be halfway quiet, but of course performance is key and portability to build on site.

So sitting here with Brian Getz and we just finished our Super Sculpture for ESPN! A 20 foot basketball player for Florida Gulf Coast University and ESPN. We will post more pictures and videos soon and it should be on ESPN Friday night for their Midnight Madness special!  Here is a quick picture of it after he went up.  20 feet tall, 50 man hours, and clocks in at just under 1000 balloons.  Definitely a fun project!

Picture Gallery / 25 Foot Jack and the Beanstalk
September 20, 2013, 05:33:03 AM
Well, our latest large scale sculpture was a unique one.  We were asked to make a 25 foot Jack and the Beanstalk.  It was one of those that we planned out, but when it came time for the execution, we changed several things and it came out looking much different than it did on the drawing board.  In any event, I'm really happy with the result.  Almost 2 am over here now, so I will hopefully put up more pictures tomorrow if you want, but here's a quick one.

Probably learned more doing this particular structure than the biplane or rollercoaster, just because of all the minor details that went with it.

Picture Gallery / 3000 Balloon Rollercoaster!!
June 04, 2013, 12:53:00 AM
We just finished our most recent project, a 3000 Balloon Roller coaster!  The local news-stations were here to film this morning and hopefully we can put up more pictures later.  Luckily, we had a lot of volunteers to blow up balloons.  Thanks to Brian Getz for coming down and helping with the project!

You can also see a time lapse video of the project here.  It also takes you on a virtual ride through the roller coaster through the magic of a GoPro Camera!

Picture Gallery / Finally did the Buster Gorilla
February 02, 2013, 06:45:20 PM
Had to have a reason, but finally got a client that wanted something like that.  And when making it, we why not make two for twice the price!  We had twister Brian Getz down, so we decided to crank a couple out and do subtle differences to see which one we liked more.  One thing we noticed.  Don't mouth inflate the 646s.  It may just be here in Florida, but the humidity shows through a bit after a day or so.  Next time we will use a pump strictly.
Thought we would post some pics.  These guys were fun to make!!  Once you get past the head, it's a breeze!

Picture Gallery / Minions, Minions, Minions!
January 21, 2013, 06:11:42 AM
Okay, so I decided to get ahead of the curve.  With the new Despicable Me movie coming out, these little guys are going to be asked for again.  Last time the only ones I made were woven and more time consuming.  I am trying to find one that is quicker to make, virtually line work or restaurant work.

Trying to decide which one I like, what do you think?

All of them!

The 646 one.  Love this one, but don't really want to carry 646s around just for it.  I do like it though...

The head with a 350 and 260 outfit and 160s everywhere else.  I like it, but thought the outfit looked a little big.

This is the last one.  350 head and the rest are all 160s.  I think it looks good, however, I really don't like using that many 160s because they deflate so easily.  Anyhow, this might be the quickest one.

Also, I usually put artwork on the head for hair, but I was mainly wanting to get the shape down.  Any thoughts guys?  Just made these and thought I would put them out there!

Balloon Chit Chat / Floating Balloon Octopus
January 20, 2013, 07:38:39 PM
So I don't deal much with helium, but I got a strange request.
I make the standard octopus for line work and centerpieces.  (by standard I mean the 12" polka dot round, 4 260s for arms, 2 eye balloons)

I got a request from someone who wants this design floating around the room for an event.  I tried with the standard 12" balloon and it would barely float with more of an even tendency then going up.  In any event, it wouldn't last long if at all.

I was wondering if anyone has tried it with a 16" balloon or has anyone had any luck making these float?  I have never really tried to make sculptures float and I am not crazy about helium and have tried talking the lady out of it, but couldn't.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Balloon Chit Chat / Huge Balloon Octopus
January 08, 2013, 09:51:15 PM
So a client saw this octopus dance canopy on a website and decided she wanted it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ss6bI4mceA4

Not too hard to make, but VERY time consuming.  After quoting her, I am thinking it will probably end up being out of her price range.  I was wondering what you guys would think about doing something similar with a 3 foot balloon in the center and then link-a-loon arms daisy chained out from there.  It wouldn't be as impressive, but quite a bit less time consuming.

Do you guys think it would look nice?  Would the 12" LaL make the arms too thin?

Thanks!

Balloon Decor / Arch Calculator
January 06, 2013, 05:32:58 PM
So I remember an arch calculator I looked through a while back.  It may have been by Ken Stillman.  I'm not sure what the link was or where it was.
Back when I played with it, I didn't do arches, but now that I actually do them, I can't remember it.

Anyone know of a good one?

I posted this in the Pictures forum, but then realized here would have been better.  I had some requests for Pinocchio or Italian themed balloons for an upcoming party. Has anyone tackled it? They are wanting them for centerpieces and are wanting about 20 of them and not spend too much so probably keeping it a bit more simple. Anyone have any ideas of an easy Pinocchio or an italian type balloon centerpiece?

Balloon Chit Chat / B's Toffee?
December 14, 2012, 06:46:43 PM
So I have had this color in my collection for a couple months, but can't really find a use for it.  It seems a bit too dark to be flesh tone for most creations and too light to be brown.

Anyone use it and have recommendations?

Balloon Chit Chat / Latex Free Balloons
October 24, 2012, 02:16:43 PM
Quick question

Okay, I had a call about an event at a school and she asked if I use Latex free balloons.  There are no such balloons for twisting are there?  I have always assumed there aren't but I wanted to double check.

Picture Gallery / Zombiecon!
October 22, 2012, 06:23:25 PM
So, we got busy on Saturday and I didn't get a chance to make the large balloons I wanted to, so we made a Zombie mask like the one on Buster's DVD.  However, we chose to make the eyes light up which I think really added to the effect as the night wore on.

I got emailed this picture by a client who said he found it on the web.  Anyone know if this is an original or who's mask it is?  Looks very nice!  Looks like a Buster type mask, but who knows.

Balloon Chit Chat / Help with odd request..
October 17, 2012, 03:25:43 AM
So, I don't want to get in a conversation about America's politics, I do events for both sides of the aisle.  That being said, I was asked to do balloons for Romney/Ryan's appearance in Florida.  I have several great ideas, but one is eluding me.  I want to make a woven top hat with the Romney logo on it.  However, I have found that logo ridiculously hard!  Anyone have any ideas?  I know it's easy, but I'm at a complete blank.  Here is the logo, I'm just trying to make it and attach it to a woven hat.

Any ideas?

Balloon Chit Chat / Zombiecon!
October 13, 2012, 03:46:48 AM
Okay, so we will be attending a big zombie-type event called zombiecon.  It is to commemorate one of the Dawn of the Dead films that was filmed here.  Everyone will be dressed up like zombies, and when I saw dressed up I mean all out.  These guys come from all over the states with liquid latex, and all their special effects.
I am looking to make some seriously outrageous zombie hats, bigger the better.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I have some of the zombie heads, but I didn't necessarily want to use those as having them drawn on gives a bit more flexibility.  Anyone have any ideas or have you toyed with the Zombie theme at all?

Balloon Chit Chat / Banner for Larger Events
October 05, 2012, 09:13:43 PM
So we now have a banner that has our logo, but I wanted to make one that advertises balloons on it so people know what's going on at the table.  It will be one of those X-frame stand banners.  I was designing it and had a question for you guys that have done one or thought about it.
I want it to say Balloon Art, have my picture and then have some samples of my work.  However, should I have the really impressive stuff of the line work items?  Many times I have this out, I may be at a festival type atmosphere where I won't have time to spend 6-10 minutes on a creation, so I wouldn't want kids to want those designs only to be told they take a bit too long.  However, I want people to see those designs to know I can do them for future private parties.

What do you think?  Go with the good stuff, or put simple things on the banner?  I hate to have line work type balloons on the banner, but I wanted to see if you guys had an opinion.

Thanks!
