Balloon Decor / getting a toy "in space"?
July 18, 2014, 08:40:05 AM

Can I do this myself? I'd like give a toy present to my kid that's "been in in space". I'm sure she'll love it.
Are there any instructions/tutorials on what I'll need for this? All I've heard is you need a camera, a phone with GPS and a box (styrofoam box?) to hold those, and a helium filled balloon.
I don't know what kind of balloon and what software to track the GPS signal of the phone via my PC where I'm at, how to put them all together to avoid breaking, what kind of balloon to use, what kind of toy (material) and what kind of camera will be fine at that degrees and not break or get damaged, etc.
PS. I'm fully aware of the legality of this where I'm at, what authorities I should contact and where to release the balloon and what meterological website to use to caluclate the approximate area the box will land to avoid it falling on someone's property, road, etc.
Many thanks.

I understand most of members here cant answer some of my question, but I think you will at least know what kind of balloon(s) to use. And I see nowhere else to ask this.

Im still not getting this.

I want to buy a helium tank.

It is 10 Litres.

And one "atmosphere" of helium in it costs $1.

I know ATM is a unit of pressure, but dont get more than that.

How do I know how much ATM I need for N sized balloon?
How do I know how much ATM an N Litre tank can store?

Thanks.

Balloon Chit Chat / how much does helium cost?
July 04, 2014, 03:35:05 PM
I'm trying to buy a helium tank locally and I'm given the price of 0.6-1$ for 1 atm. And I'm told that their 1 atm can fill one regular balloon. I searched the internet and found that balloon tanks sold internationally is <100$ for a tank that can fill about 1000 balloons. I lost the link to that company's chart.

So am I being given ridiculous prices for helium by Armenian resellers or is it really that expensive? because this is just a hobby.

making things like this,

I'd like them to float.

Currently the armature I make with copper wire. it is slightly heavy, though by my calculations if I fill all the balloons with helium, it might float.

But I'm thinking if I can replace copper wires with something less heavy and maybe more rigid (not brake/deform) at the same time.
I've been suggested to try styrofoam and epoxy so far.

This is just a hobby thing for me so I'm not familiar with those. What will you guys suggest?

Balloon Decor / non-twisting animals?
April 29, 2014, 07:38:05 PM
I know most people here make animals by twisting balloons. I was thinking of something like this:

But an animal instead of a heart shape.
Do people do that? What is it called?

I've made a heart like the one above before, by making a copper wire heart and sliding balloon groups on it.
But I'm not sure if it will be a good idea for something complex like a teddy bear. I'd also like the animal to float and copper wire is heavy.
Any ideas?

Balloon Decor / RGB LED balloons?

Anyone know where I should buy the RGB LED devices used in balloons?

There are some on ebay, but I want to buy about 1000 for a large party. People have suggested me to look in alibaba.com for large quantity purchases, but I've never used the site. I don't know how to find out if the quality and seller are good. If someone can suggest me a good company which sells these please let me know.

Balloon Decor / helium questions
April 19, 2014, 03:27:17 PM
I'm just a hobbyist so these questions will probably sound very simple.

1) OK, so first, do you buy a new helium tank when it gets empty, or are there places (where?) you can get a tank refilled.

2) How many balloons can you fill with a full tank? Say you have a 50 lbs tank and 11 inch balloons. Around how many can you fill?

3) Say I want the balloon to rise slower when released in open air. Can I mix air with helium for that. How should I do that?

Welcome / hello
April 18, 2014, 10:09:12 AM
Hello, I'm new here.
I'm not really interested in balloon twisting, but I've made some balloon hearts and simple shapes before for celebrations for fun and I have two balloon projects in my mind I hope knowledgeable people here can help me make.

----------------------------------
I don't have pictures of my own, but this is what I mean by balloon heart:

How I did it was make a heart shape from a painted copper wire then attach 4-5 balloons from their bases to rings (which I made from paper clips) and just slide the rings inside the copper wire, then twist the copper wire ends and connect them like that. I don't know if that's the right way to do it but back then I didn't know there was an internet forum to ask about this.

What I want to do in the future is make a teddy bear or some animal from balloons like that heart shape. I know 3d modelling and I can make the design, but I don't know how people make such "balloon animals", and I don't think my copper wire method will work here.

The other thing I want to do is have lots flying "led flashing balloons" for someone's birthday.

They sell some on eBay and alibaba but I don't know which ones are good. I also don't know about helium, I want to slow down the "rising" of the helium filled balloons somehow.

Anyway, I'll make separate topics about these two projects.
Just wanted to tell who I am and what I want to do.
