August 27, 2015, 09:10:41 PM
This is a video tutorial on how to make Monster High's Draculara. It's by Balloons Palm Beach (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCr8bpb ... Fn0kw8KStQ) Be sure to check out some of their other videos.

You will need:
  3 wild berry 160s
  6 black 160s
  2 white 160s
  2 pink 160s
  1 wild berry 260
  1 black 260
  1 blush 260
  1 scrap blush 260

I did this tutorial and made this balloon, but I had no wild berry so I used a shade of purple. Here is my results:

If you do this tutorial, be sure to post your pictures below! I hope you enjoy making Draculara!

Balloon Chit Chat / Did you make your own website?
August 26, 2015, 10:32:09 PM
I am venturing into the world of website making because well, I am impatient and can't afford to pay $2,000 for one and what I have so far (I think) looks good but some people in the business have told me it's better to just not have a website than to make my own because it won't look as polished and professional. I wouldn't have the money needed to make one for hire until Februray and my little business is really taking off, I'm starting to get some corporate clients, and I just feel like I need more than a Facebook page.

What is everyone's thoughts on this matter? I am using sitey.com, the same website I used to make my personal blog because it's so easy to customize.

Picture Gallery / Fefe :)
August 21, 2015, 03:41:22 PM

I did Holly Hopper's doggy with 260's and finally tried my hand at the classic diamond shape to give sweet Fefe a little bling on her collar. Think she turned out great.

Well, I'll list the tutorial like I always do, and then state my problem I am having with it.

This is Holly Hopper's Deluxe Dog Balloon Animal Tutorial - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ow_LV61ZmmA (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0_MYs ... ZTrev-99GQ - Her main channel, be sure to check out her other videos and like and subscribe!)

You Will Need:
 2 260s of the same color for the body
  1 scrap 260
 1 260 for the ears
 1 red heart or red/pink balloon for the mouth

Ok, so, the problem I am having is I want to make this with 350s but I keep getting caught up at the body. When it comes time to roll (bird body formation as she states in the video) I can't get them to budge. They don't pop, and I work with them forever but I can't get the balloon through and can't get the air to go out to get it through because it's too far up in the balloon and even if I could, it's too tight between the two balloons to get anything in there. I try it again with looser (less air in) balloons, and all the air just goes out of all the balloons when I push on them. There has to be a trick when using 350s, because I know it can be done, I've seen penguins and birds in pictures and videos made out of 646s. Very frustrated here, would appreciate any advice, need this done by Sunday my time so I'm down to the wire.

Balloon Chit Chat / New Business Advice
July 19, 2015, 07:43:00 AM
So, I know a lot of you have your own business you run out of your own home, or maybe you don't. But, anyways, I have opened my own, and I have a lot of ideas that I am already going to get advice from a professional business consultant from but I thought it wouldn't also hurt to get input from seasoned twisters who have been in the game for a long time and been getting paid for doing for a long time. I used to be a party clown when I was in high school from my sophomore to junior year, so between the ages of 17 to 16 but I never had a business license, or insurance. I lived in picture perfect small town USA and got booked so much for balloon jobs and parties because literally the person who booked for my next gig was at the party I was at. Everyone knew everybody, my graduating class had 90 people in it, the town over had 490 in theirs to show you a contrast. I never took pictures of my work, I only did it on the weekends, and I really only charged enough to cover my gas, supplies, food, and a extra $40 because I was saving up for my prom dress and spring beach week lol. I did it for college applications and because of my love of balloons. This time, it's a much different ballgame. I have invested my nest egg which was for our car down payment, around $1000 american dollars, to follow my dream. I've always wanted to own my own business, and I've always wanted to make people smile and spread joy and, haha, I've always LOVED balloons so I'm I can really say every morning that I LOVE my job. And if in a year, like I told my husband and family, it all turns out to be a joke and has added up to nothing, at least I can say I tried and actually cashed my dream which a lot of people never get to say in their lifetime. See, here was the deal: Graduate college, get married, and then Husband got to quit his job for a year and go on tour across the country with his punk band, his dream. Not make a career, just go on tour. 1 Tour. He came back and I got to quit my job for 1 year and do whatever I wanted for 1 year then we buy a house and start having kids and being adults. I've never been one to have unstructured fun though, lol.
Now that we are all caught up on back stories, business questionssss:
-Like I said, I don't have a business license yet, I know most of you are from the UK but even there, do most of you? If any of you are from the USA, do you?
-Ok, so, I am waiting to make business cards and my website until I have my professional photoshoot (there will be over 200 balloon animals crammed into the frame with me, the photographers idea that I think ROCKS!) so I just make a facebook page, but, well there are subparts to this, but is that ok?
a.) I offered a promotion on my facebook to get likes and my word out about my business to spread that was if you liked my page, you got 10% your first order, and if you liked AND shared the status stating all of this on your personal facebook page you got 20% off your first order. The problem with this is Facebook is glitching and not giving me all the names of everyone that likes the page. I am waiting on them to get back to me, but was this a good idea in the first place?
b.)I paid for facebook to promote my little mini ad on the side for my state and i live right on the border of another state, so for that state too. It is showing that a lot of people are viewing a lot things on my page but not liking it, which I find hard to believe that they would go through 120 foils but not hit a like button. Has anyone else had problems with faulty results with facebook paid promotions?
c.)I had been posting as many samples of balloons that I make, items we offer, foils we have in stock and can order, and notes about our values, what a sample picture quote looks like, ect. but it's really hard to keep up with and get it all out there and I can't afford a employee to do it for me, even though I wish I could, if not just to put up this first stock online. Is it even necessary? Will it get me clients? Should I save it for my website?
d.)I was going to do a giveaway at 100 likes. Should I do one sooner since we are close to 50 or will that not motivate people to share the status to get more people to like the page?
-I have been getting in contact with all of the local "professional" photographers (it seems like there is a new one in the area everyday - or at least everyday someone goes to WalMart and buys a camera!) and offering them 50% discount for balloon orders to use them as photo props. Has anyone else ever done this? Do you consider this a good business opportunity or should I not go so low with the discount? Should I ask that they feature my logo on their website if they agree to use my balloons in any pictures?
-I am looking for someone to make me a custom design logo. Should I go to a graphic designer and pay a premium price or go to a website like Etsy where someone else could have the same logo as me but it will cost less? Does it really matter?
-Should I have a custom designed website or would a free would be fine as long as I pay monthly for the ads to be removed?
-Should I set up a twitter and a email for my business?
-I really want to have a grand opening at the end of the month but how could I have one when I don't have a store and operate out of my home?

Picture Gallery / My first Minnie Mouse!
July 13, 2015, 11:30:08 PM
I've never done a character head before, so very proud of this one. Saw many different YouTube videos and pictures and kind of added them all together to make this one, which I'm sure has also been recreated to look just like mine just not in the same way lol (it turns out the Minnie/Mickey head is very popular), so I won't say it's a original but a collaboration of many different techniques.  :D I took a blush 160 and a scrap 260 black and tulip pinched the end of the black 260 down into the end of the blush 160 and then twisted it to make the nose. Then, I did a pinch twist, wrapped it around the nose, two more larger but equal sized pinch twists, and wrapped those around the nose. I added a black 160 and twisted it with the blush about three fingers, then again, then bent then down and twisted them around the nose so that the two blush were in the front and the two black were in the back. I took the remaining black and made 2 Minnie ears in the style of Little Miss Twist and cut, tied, and twisted off. The bow was just a fold, pinch, fold, cut, tie, twist in around back of head. It was actually a very simple head. I made a really cool weave on the back of her head to keep her upright that I chose to not picture, just because I thought I would start making it a signature on my wands.

I made her into a wand and added her signature yellow heel at the bottom. I was very satisfied with her.

Balloon Chit Chat / I'M BACK.....WITH BALLOONS!
July 08, 2015, 08:27:48 PM
I'm back among the living, no longer ill, and with balloons!

...but seriously, I got a lot of balloons! My shipment finally came in from LA Rocks! (I still was unable to find a reasonable priced assortment pack of round geos and tried to get help from a facebook but was berated, surprise it's facebook lol, but did find a site that sold them fairly cheap and ordered today. All would be solved if Graham shipped to the states lol.)

Anywho, while in my sickness my nephews birthday came upon me and I had to make a balloon for his party, something extra special. Since you only turn two once, I decided to do a topiary take, but without a dowel in the middle and I'm glad I did because he tucked it under his arm and carted it all around the party with him the whole day. I started at the top, the only thing with helium is the foil at the top, and I have a weight in the bottom for stability. It turned out great. I have pictures of him with it, but I decided to not post them. All of it held together until the very evening when he pulled off the hat and the bananas.

The one of the left is in the making the one on the right is finished, but I ended up adding a stabilizing crystal 260 at the bottom with a little party hat I made out of 260 scraps attached to it, it was right under the monkey's butt.

Balloon Chit Chat / Crotchet Balloon Dog Plushies
June 29, 2015, 12:30:04 AM
Came across this little shop on Facebook by a Google search that makes little balloon dog crotchet plushies (stuffies, stuffed animals, whatever you want to call them). I messaged her about a order and haven't heard back yet. Just thought it was a cute little share! They appear to be custom made so you can order whatever color or size and she can probably attach them to a animal, that is what I am asking for

The shop is called Lizzy Little Fish Crotchet. Here's the link, for all interested, it doesn't have a external website listed, so I'm guessing for order inquires you just send a message to the page. //https://www.facebook.com/pages/Lizzy-Little-Fish-Crochet/252159111603611?sk=timeline

Picture Gallery / A Flower Project
June 28, 2015, 03:22:45 PM
I'm a bit rusty on flowers so I decided to make a little centerpiece "spray" for my kitchen table. I also wanted to do a different kind of flower, so I inverted a Lily of the Valley. I think it turned out pretty well. Sorry for the shotty pictures, I took these with my camera phone that acts up. I don't feel like it is my best work. I went on into the night with the stems and bow and then when I woke up the next morning I was quite sick when I woke up but finished it anyways. I just feel like I couldn't get the placement right of some of the flowers, but it's still a nice little piece seeing as I haven't done any flowers for about 5 years.

Balloon Chit Chat / Raisins or Beans?
June 26, 2015, 10:29:23 PM
Raisins or beans? Which do you use when you are twisting? When I watching videos from around the world I see people use all kinds of things but the most popular are either raisins or beans. I prefer to use raisins just because they are softer with no hard or sharp edges so they have no chance or popping the balloon before I close it off. I liked beans when I used them because they were easier to store with my balloons, I could just put them in a Tupperware, they wouldn't get sticky, stuck together and I wouldn't have to wash my hands after getting one out. But, I had too many instances where it popped a balloon because it was brittle. This could have been because I was using Dollar Store beans, the way I was storing them, ect. but I just seem to have better luck with raisins so I have just stuck with them.

What about you? Do you use raisins or beans or something else?

Tutorial for Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit by YouTube's ChangSunny. She doesn't talk at all in the video, and shows the tails for a very shorts period of time (seconds) so I watched it a few times and paused it and got the measurements for ya'all.

What you will need:
 1 light blue 260 *8 finger tail (so you don't have to cut it and retie like she does)
 5" white round *she pumps it 4 times, you just want it pretty soft
    2 tan 260s *1 with a 9 finger tail, the other with a 7 finger tail
    1 tan 160 *6 finger tail
 1 white scrap *9 fingers long, inflated

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juPDcHmLyeM

Hope this helped out all the children literature fans! I knew I grew up on these tales and will be giddy about this balloon at the library at come Easter time. As always, if you do make this balloon be sure to share your picture in this thread so we can all enjoy it.

What balloon facebook groups is everyone a part of? I know there are a lot of them and I was just curious to see what ones everyone was a part of. I saw a list on the internet when I googled "balloon facebook groups" that even had a secret one that you must be invited to join! Only those that demonstrate random acts of balloon art kindness are invited to the secret online society. I liked the page, mostly because I enjoyed seeing the pictures they post of such acts. It's amazing how a balloon can cheer up or make someones day. Other groups are "Balloon I Learned From YouTube" where people post the original YouTube video with the balloon in it, and the in the comment, their picture. Usually, other people post their pictures of their version or their attempt of it is as well. Some are better than others, but everyone overall seems to have fun. There is another group that is somethings alphabet and they try to keep the alphabet going with balloons. Someone will post a F for example and a balloon of a frying pan, and say "F is for Frying pan. The next letter if G." and so the owner of the group will add frying pan to the letter F, because now no one else can ever post a frying pan for the letter F again, and the next one to post a picture of a balloon has to post something that starts with the letter G, but can't post something that has been posted before, so they have to go check the list which is a sticky in the group at the top. I spent a lot of time scrolling through that wall and some of the balloons were very intricate and some of them are really wild what they came up with for the letters. Those are the only groups I have heard of/been approved to. What groups do you belong to?
