Yeah, foil balloon guys, also a pain in the neck..
I will give you an example about the "friendly" buskers "code":
Last summerseason I was busking at a cityfestival. In this city you have certain "bottlenecks" that are excellent places for busking. The unwritten rule is: first come, first busk. I was next in place after an acrobate guy who works with fire throwing. When he saw me he went bezirk: he told me to F..off and started throwing lighter fluid all over my balloon stand ready to put it on fire!! It ended up into a catfight in the middle of a 500 crowd. The police station was at the other side of the street so in no time there were also 3 cops involved. He kept calling names whit his mobile speakers on. Can you imagine?
At the end of the day he went home with a lots of tulip and pinch twisted arms.. ;-)

Wow, that sounds pretty nasty. Are all buskers in Belgium like that?

Just a minute, if you normaly charge for them, then you're not busking anyway!

I'm busking for 8 years now. For all those years I have my own spots at the busiest shopping streets in Belgium where I weekly perform. It's very simple: when there are other buskers with no license I call up the police to check them out. I'm sick and tired of all those "wouldbe" buskers, mostly illegal immigrants who want to make fast and easy money. First they will "spy" on you for weeks or months and even have a little chat to figure out how the balloon busking "business" works. After a while they appear on the scene doing the same stuff. They are also quite agressive towards the shoppers and tourists asking for money. Bad for every decent busker on the long term. When there's another "balloonbusker" I even hand out my balloons for free putting him out of business.
The police here is very strict: no license, no performance. They regularly confiscate all the materials.
As I mentioned before: for the local counsils balloonartists are in the "grey zone": are they busking or are they selling balloons?
My 2 cents: only busking with balloons is almost impossible. Everybody thinks it's for free and at the end of the day you end up with a nickle and a dime..

Yeah man, those busking licenses are a really pain in the..! Here in Belgium you also need a license for busking with strict rules. They all differ from town to town. Some are free, other are paying. Can you imagine: for every town, city, village you have to get a permit at the city hall. Sometimes it takes months to get those. Why is it so difficult: the government wants to filter out the "illegals".
If you're asking a fixed price for every balloon, it's an all different ball game. Then you need a business license! There are even cityfestivals who are handing out special permits for grime artists, hair weaving and..balloon artists! Why? The difference from other buskers (mime, acrobats, musicians etc.) that you're selling a "product" and therefore have to pay taxes!
That's why I'm not going to busk in other countries: I'm not prepared to travel to Barcelona or Germany to have issues with the police or the local regulations.
My 2 cents..

Hi Leo,
I'm a customer at IBS for several years now. I'm a busker and regularly buy my stock of Q260's and Q160's at your compagny. At the beginning of every summer season I make a large order because this is a busy season for buskers. But every time there are some standard Q260 colors out of stock, especially st. red, pale blue, pink, white, lime green etc. I don't get it: how is it possible that there's no complete stock at this time of the year? Isn't this a busy period for you as well? And..this time there was no Millenniumjam..   :D

Hi Tom, why don't you answer several emails via your website? I wanted to know the events where you are booked for twisting in Belgium so I can see a real pro on the job..Thx
