Balloon Tutorial & Help / snowflake
January 07, 2011, 11:20:53 AM
Good morning. These are the instructions for a 160 snowflake.

Supply list: 4 white 160s.

Both Qualatex and Betallic/Sempertex users will need to stretch the first 160 really well both before inflation and after.

Balloon Chit Chat / Re: Balloon New Year's Resolutions
December 31, 2010, 02:35:18 AM
My #1 New Year's resolution has been the same for the last 6 years, albeit a couple of those years the resolution was preceded by the flip of a coin: to try one more year of supporting myself by twisting balloons.

I've done the "learn a design a day" thing.  Kept it up for a year and a half.  Some days I couldn't work on designs; others I would learn 3 or 4 at a time.  In the end it was excellent practice for honing my skills, learning the fundamentals of twisting, and building my repertoire.  It was an investment well worth doing in my book.

theFPlady - lol I will certainly think of you as the new year rolls in. :)

Happy twisting all!

Kevin, you're up-sized version of the mouse is super cool!  You've turned a design I rarely use into one that I will now use again on a regular basis.  Thank you!

Kevin, thank you for the compliment on the mouse. Your Big Santa may be a tad bit too tall for his weight, but I've heard being on the thin side is fashionable. ;) Wishing you a Merry Christmas with lots of love too! :)

This is my last Christmas balloon for this year.  Another challenge issued by John Christianson. lol  This time it's: Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer (In case you are not familiar with this, it's a Christmas song played in the US) She has a woven dress and her bloomers are made using a large heart.  The glasses she wears are mine! lol

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Love the stuffed flowers Kevin!  Very pretty!

I too was stuffing balloons tonight.  I didn't have the whiskey and I had to do it the old way but this is what I came up with thanks to a challenge issued by John Christianson: Frog in a Blender.  As for taking photos better, I have no idea.  Right now I'm just crossing my fingers in hopes that my camera works at all. lol

This is a 660 mouse made for a display piece.  He stands about 2' tall and holds a 160 candy cane.  Someone on FB commented about the difficulty of using 660s (or 646s as the case may be) and I have to agree.  They are a bit rough on the hands to work with.  I only use them for display pieces and even then I try to keep the twisting as simple as possible.  There are only 5 - 660 bubbles used for this mouse: 2 for the thighs, 1 for the chest, 1 for the belly, and 1 super soft one for the back.

Balloon Chit Chat / Re: My first "lick"

Here you go Normski, a photo of the hat on someone's head (taken 4 years ago) and 2 photos of how I've slightly modified the hat since then.  I make the tongue bigger (so the wearer can see through it and because it bobs up and down easier with the larger tongue) and only 4 teeth (2 smaller ones on either side with 2 larger ones in the middle).

Balloon Chit Chat / My first "lick"
December 19, 2010, 07:08:24 AM
Good morning ya'll,

I got my first "lick" Friday while at my Friday restaurant.  That sounds so funny, and it was at the time too. I was asked to make a guy a special hat without the guy's knowledge so I decided on the Rolling Stones Hat (big set of lips with a huge tongue sticking out).  The person who made the request tipped me in advance.

I made the hat while at another table, then walked up to the unsuspecting guy and said, "I was told you would just loooove wearing one of my hats so I chose my favorite hat of all just for you."  Then I smiled, wiggled the hat up and down, and said, "By the way, you gotta be careful about nodding to people while wearing this hat.  Not everyone appreciates the invitation."  Then I placed the hat on him amid lots of laughter from everyone around us, watched him turn beet red, and then I walked away.

About 10 minutes later the guy who received the hat came up to me and used the hat to lick my face, laughed while thanking me, and then handed me an additional tip.  He is the first one to "lick" me in the 6.5 years I've been making that hat.  Usually they just "lick" the person sitting next to them. lol  I thought it was a hoot. :)

Martin, love the reindeer!
Tonya, the teddy bear is too cute!  Love the wreath!

Here's a snowman hat.  (I used a large link-o-loon so no raisin twist needed to attach the body to the feet)

This sort of disposable pocket hand warmer is what my son uses when he has to go out on maneuvers.  When his hands get too cold he just slips them into his pockets with the warmers for a bit.
