Balloon Chit Chat / Holiday
November 07, 2012, 01:02:09 PM
My stepdaughter is getting married in Jamaica.  I will be gone for a week and am already having balloon withdrawal.  Does anyone think I should take some with me - just in case?

Picture Gallery / Froot Basket - Robbie Furman
October 02, 2012, 02:00:49 PM
This weekend is Thanksgiving here in Canada and I thought that I would make this "Froot Basket" by Robbie Furman.  It is easy to make and I will be giving them to two of my regular customers as a thank you for their business.

Picture Gallery / Beer Mug
August 24, 2012, 12:22:58 PM
I made this because we are having a "Beer Festival" in one of our local towns.  My problems are many with trying to sell items like this, so I simply make them as promotional items and usually realize other business from them.  Trying new things and practicing old ones is important in the ballooning community and to keep up my own skills, so it has bothered me as to what to do with these "practice" creations.  For my area I think I have found the solution by giving them to various businesses in the area.  This is a small rural community and there is absolutely no call for balloon creations that are "higher" priced.

I made this display piece for our famous Elvis Festival in Collingwood!  He is life sized and he took me a whole day to make.  Sorry about the background but I didn't have time to photoshop.

I was asked to make a jersey cow and this is what I came up with.  Started with Tony McNeill's cow hat and built from ideas on this forum.

Balloon Chit Chat / Penquins in line work?
June 09, 2012, 11:39:19 AM
Last nite, I did a charitable gig for "Relay for Life" the Cancer fundraiser.  As most times, I got so many calls for swords and although they are easy and fast I would liked to have used more of my knowledge.  It seems when one child has one - they all want one.  I do not usually make my favorite, the penquin when there is a line up - for the time involved - however I did get a request for one.  Afterwards, of course each child wanted one as well so I told them that I can only make one per sitting as the darn penquins poop all over the place and with that many we just wouldn't be able to walk around in all that poop.  THEY BOUGHT IT!  LOL, even the older kids who knew it wasn't possible accepted my explanation of why I would only make one.   Kids are soooo fun!

Picture Gallery / Bride
May 01, 2012, 07:50:30 PM
I was asked to do a bride for a window display and this is what I came up with.  I'm only allowed a smaller space in the window so I used Ken Stillman's fantasy princess to some extent and just figured out the rest.

Picture Gallery / Fire Hydrant
April 22, 2012, 08:08:56 PM
This is for the owner of a pet shop.  Dog of course is copied (sort of) from Thelma Levitt - but the fire hydrant is all mine LOLOLOL!  Tonya told me that eventually I would come up with an idea of my own, and I finally did.

Balloon Chit Chat / Measuring!
April 21, 2012, 11:30:46 AM
In my lifetime before balloons, I was a bookkeeper.  Exacting, perfection, absolutely right to the penny!!!!  Now being retired, my attention is devoted to balloons and creating all the lovely things that are on the dvd's I've purchased.  However, my nature makes me follow the exact measurements that each creation notes.  I spend so much time measuring, I actually keep a ruler beside me so that each bubble is exactly the same as the instructions.  Some artists use inches, some use a number of fingers and who knows if my fingers are the same size as the originating artist.  In any case I am spending so much time making sure that I have it dead on, that I'm obviously taking too long with each creation.  Short of brain washing my habit out of me, does anyone have any suggestions?  This is driving me nuts!!!!!!!

Picture Gallery / Tonya's Hats
April 14, 2012, 02:45:01 PM
Thanks Tonya and nippy99!  I have realized that I am simply a "copy" artist but thats ok with me.  Without the help and encouragement of everyone here on the forum, I wouldn't even be that.

Picture Gallery / High Float in 260's??
February 25, 2012, 04:20:14 PM
I don't know if anyone has tried this, but I wanted to make some balloon roses for Valentines Day well ahead of time.  I used some "High Float" in a test balloon in November and it is still inflated.  I did tie another balloon to it without the "Hight Float" at the same time which was quickly soft and unusable.  I am talking 260Q's and just wondered if anyone else was doing this?

Picture Gallery / Rainbows
July 04, 2011, 09:50:41 PM
The theme for my grandaughters 3rd birthday was rainbows.   Thanks to recently purchasing one of Ken Stillman's dvd's I was able to make a full size rainbow princess for the party.  As well, I made a rainbow in a cloud centrepiece for the table.

I saw a picture of this and just had to try the technique.  After many many tries I finally got it.  Not as hard as it looked after all. LOL
