Dave has kindly volunteered to help out and keep an eye on this section of the forum. Some of the games go in fits and starts so he will just be nudging/reminding everyone just to keep things rolling over.
So thanks Dave for finding the time and helping out, appreciated  :D

Balloon Chit Chat / Model of the month, help required
December 28, 2009, 09:40:19 AM
I was looking for a few volunteers to help with next years model of the month. It would be nice if I could do every other month with a few offering to fill in with the others.
Ideally six people all doing just one model would be great, this would involve putting the model on the forum around the beginning of the month and the writen instructions/pictures around the middle.

Balloon Chit Chat / First time for everything....
December 19, 2009, 09:28:03 PM
In all the years that I've been entertaining which is a fair few the worst that has happened is that I have been 10 minutes late, well today I missed a party  :o

Things started off OK, got to the first show and it went well, a Christmas party for the British legion with around 50 children. So in the car at 3pm and off to Hanworth for a 4.30 start which the sat nav said would take an hour, we started off going all the back doubles around Caterham with very icy roads and Caterham is a very hilly place, so not a great start and the car was sliding all over the place. I get to the A22 Caterham roundabout which is around three miles from the motorway and the main dual carriageway is closed due to the weather conditions with no diversion sign posted but I do know the way around but the traffic is all stationary and nearly all the cars were turning around, so it was decision time. I decided to turn around and get to the motorway via the A23 through Purley then onto the M23 and M25. By the time I reach the M25 due to all the Christmas traffic etc which was only about five miles away it took me an hour from when I left the last party and the sat nav said I would reach the second party five minutes after I'm meant to start. I decided to pull over and ring the client in the hope that her party was going on till possibly 6.00 p.m. She informs me that I had been booked from 4 till 5 and was meant to start in 10 minutes, my paperwork said 4.30 to 5.3o but I may have typed it wrong on the confirmation letter so I then find out that the party is finishing at 5.oo p.m. and I still have 35 miles to go and wont be there till 4.40. As you can imagine the client is very upset but rightly so? Possibly, but I did my best to get there and I was sure the party was booked as per my paperwork. I can just imagine all the names I must have been getting called!!

As soon as I get home I check the confirmation letter and I was right, the party was booked 4.30/5.30 but I'm feeling terrible due to missing someone's party for the very first time.
I decided to make a large bag of balloons and take them over tonight and to apologise in person for the non arrival of the entertainer earlier in the day, she was a bit icy at first but accepted the balloons and a birthday card that I made for the birthday girl and I have offered to do another party at a reduced fee if she was willing to take a chance and book me again. I did feel better after going over to see the lady and at the end she did thank me for the balloons saying her daughter would enjoy playing with them.
But I'm still feeling sad and upset about missing the party and what made it worse was that where the party was there was no sign of any snow but where I live and the surrounding area we have had 4/6 inches fall with many side roads closed.
All my parties on Thursday and Friday rang to see if I was attempting to get to them and I got around to them all. Mind you I had to stick to the main roads and it was slow journeys but we made it..........until today.

Balloon Chit Chat / Christmas show
December 15, 2009, 12:56:51 PM
I was getting ready at a school this morning waiting for everyone to come into the hall with the christmas music going and just got to thinking how lucky I am to be able to entertain. I think I've been blessed with the ability or whatever it is you need to entertain children and what a joy it is, I just love it.
Perhaps I've just never grown up? Who knows but I absolutely just love going around doing shows, making balloons and just enjoying life in general and the kids do say some funny things.
I was making a balloon model this morning and giving them a few clues to what it can be and suggested it was something to do with christmas, so a little hand goes up and I ask what he thinks it could be and got the reply "A worm" what more could you want, everyone laughed and the teachers all smiled while laughung along. The worm became a running gag all through the show, it's the unexpected that makes this so much fun.
Just wanted to share, off to the next party now  :D  I wonder what will happen at this one!!
